On the other front, if Jon really was the heir apparent (and I use that phrase loosely given revelation it has to be bestowed) to Dawn, why would the books and show have made such a big deal of Mormont giving Longclaw to Jon? Would seem odd to have the legacies of 2 Valyrian Steel swords fighting over one guy. Maybe it's all part of the lead up to Ser Freindzone reclaiming his heritage.

They had to show A: that's how he can kill WW's, and B: he was already deemed worthy at a young age from some one as seasoned as Lord Commander Mormont. Who knows where Longclaw goes whilst they're deciding what to do with dead Jon before he's rezzed.
