I've waited on this a while, I'm wondering if I should just hold off until Autumn/Winter and go for a 1080.

If you are waiting for winter, then just get the 1080 Ti due out this fall. That or the Vega chip that AMD is releasing, but that assumes AMD pulls off a minor miracle with it.

I'm wondering if the 1080 ti is actually going to happen. The new Titan is very close to what it should be. Maybe they will release something with approx 3200 cores.

How long should it cover you if you ARE using 144hz? And maybe 1440p? I'm debating snagging one to upgrade my 970 to go with my monitor. But thinking of holding out for the 1080 to start being in stock again too.
Honestly, if you're doing 1080p the 1070 is way overkill, a 1060 or a 480 is more than enough for that setting, no games are probably ever going to challenge it at 1080.

1070 will probably be a top of the line car for the next couple years for 1440.

I would get the 1060 if you planned on upgrading again in a couple years. 1070 will last much longer

Sorry I'm on 7/10. If I go to 10 on the slider (full settings) i get around 55 in Dalaran
WoW is very CPU centric. So if you are running an older chip, that's going to be the cause of any FPS issues.

Fan of over building myself. Spent about $2,500 on a scratch build in 2010 and just now looking at a new video card which will carry me for another 3-4 years or until component failure.

A 1060. It's about as powerful as a 980, but newer, likely to get better with driver updates.

How many of you are taking advantage of the amazon refund on the 970s? It looks like I could get a 1070 for like $100 or so. Am I stupid to just take the 20% refund instead? I game in 1080p at the moment.

"At the moment" is the key word. You never know what you might want to do in the future so why not get the better card for that cheap. I'd say jump to the 1070.

Just got an email from Newegg:

We have been informed about a class action lawsuit settlement with NVIDIA regarding the GTX 970 graphics card. Newegg is currently awaiting details about the settlement claims process (instructions, website). Once we have this important information, we will send you a follow-up email with the specifics on how you can submit your claim.

Explain this 1070 for $100 to me please
It appears that Amazon is giving people who bought 970s from them either a 20% refund or will accept a return for full credit. I paid $330 for my 970gtx. The 1070s are going for the mid four hundreds now.
