Jayne Mansfield Story. he did ok, but his accent was out of place.
Around The World in 80 days, he looked insane.
Stay Hungry was a film where he plays a bodybuilder but its not an action film.
Junior? i have no memory of that movie anymore.
Omg... Are you fucking serious? Movies from the seventies when he took any job he could, before he was remotely a star and could make choices? Stay Hungry where he basically plays... himself.

And Junior was comedy, which he has done multiple films in, plus many of his action films have comedy elements. All in the regular wheelhouse.

There's no serious dramatic turns in the last 40 years of his filmography except Maggie.

He could also have passed and tried for something more dramatic and less physical.
he has tried, that's the entire point. i'm not white knighting batista or anything, but the entire point of this whole conversation is that either he takes the roles he's offered (as the muscle) or he doesn't work. we've all pointed out several roles where he's been given more to work with and he generally knocks it out of the park. but most hiring directors just see him as a big muscly dude and assume all he's good for are bodyguard type roles. it's very similar for a woman who's extremely attractive getting something other than being hired for being pretty.

and i know what you're going to say, pretty women generally aren't great actors because they don't need to be in order to get roles. so the ones that ARE good actors have to fight tooth and nail to not get typecast. that's the point.

the whole "allowing themselves to get typecast" nonsense is dumb. either they do the job they were hired for, increasing the chances of getting more roles that are copycats of what they've already done, or they turn down the role and don't eat.

i wasnt going to say that. pretty women have to work their asses off for movie roles. if that means killing it at an audition or sucking off the fat hebrews. there are many hungry pretty girls trying to catch a break. Meryl Streep, no matter how good she is, she had to play the game the same as all the other girls. she never had a bad thing to say about Harvey Weinstein. all that being said, women have a limited shelf life in Hollywood (and porn!). they can usually get young roles til they're in their mid to later 30s, by their 40s they either have to take mom roles or work behind the camera. there are exceptions to that, but thats the norm. thats really not typecasting, how many actresses get typecasted to specific roles? men, if they like an actress, want to keep seeing that actress do whatever as long as she still looks good.

Even if DC doesn't work out for him, Bautista should be fine he really is a good actor. Knock at the Cabin was eh, but he was really creepy weird in a good way in it and more or less carried the film. I really don't see him becoming typecast, he is just a really big dude lol. The role he had in BR2049 shows that with smart writing both his acting strength and his physicalness can be both utilized to great effect.
Did you watch the one with him and the guy from Eternals / Silicon Valley?

I had to look this up cause I had no memory of the movie existing but yea he and Kumail Nanjiani were in a film called Stuber. I am pretty sure I watched it, remember nothing of it other then the leads played off each other amazingly lol. I think the issue with that one was the script being poor, buddy cop where one is an Uber driver but it didnt quite work.

phase 4 and 5 have been complete shit. even endgame was only well liked because it was the capstone of everything and the badass 45 minute long final showdown. no way home was fun though, actually enjoyed that one in the theater.

Not sure what you mean by Endgame "only well liked because." It's a solidly good movie. Not as good as Infinity Wars, but that's what you're gonna get when you have 1 movie that gets to do whatever it wants and the other movie has to wrap everything up.

Sorry I did a shit job with wording. I do agree that Endgame was a good movie but it was so pigeonholed into what it had to do because of how Infinity War ended that there really wasn't much wiggle room. I guess I'm just unfairly trying to compare it to Infinity War. That being said, in the grand scheme of MCU movies from Endgame and prior I'd still put Endgame toward the middle/top third. Not bad by any means but there were a lot of bangers that came before it. Everything that has come out SINCE THEN though has just elevated it higher and higher because of how terrible most of P4/5 have been.

Endgame was amazing, bigots.

Endgame's main problem was Captain Cunty. Her flying through the ship and destroying it like it's paper was just fucking stupid. DXM solution to a serious issue, followed by an equally DXM solution to her being too powerful (punch her out of the movie!).

Fucking hate that character.

Endgame had a number of issues. Its where they started really pushing the Message big time and it took what was a very dynamic and relatable bad guy and turned him into a one note rubber monster bad guy. Plus the unsubtle cherry on that shit was the aforementioned pushing Captain Cuntface into what was supposed to be something dominated by the core original team. Girl Power moment just fucking cemented the entire transition into the M She U, really. Plus, outside the entire paladin cap sequence the end was just reams of CGI eye vomit in place of good action sequences. The other elephant in the room was that the Toby/RDJ/Guardians interactions were the core of what made Infinity Wars great and all of that was absent in this film. Instead we got emo Cap doing support groups with gays, girl power, Cpt Cunty, and a bunch of Memberry time jump stuff that was not even following its own time travel rules half the time. It was the last gasp of good Marvel movies, we just did not realize it at the time. Spiderman NWH was the dead cat bounce.
