Surprised I didn't see a thread on this yet. Beta test Fall 2027. Predicted launch mid 2028 (just rumor based on financials).

Maybe I am not the core audience but I have always felt mounts are over-emphasized in MMO's.
That said GW2 has some of the best implementations making the movement interesting over various terrain.

No denying the team behind guild wars is AAA and they make great content, but I am hoping for more than just an updated engine.
I prefer a game economy where not everyone gets the glowing sword of power and looks like a space soldier. When everyone is super, nobody is....

If they keep PVP which is core to the franchise, sure they need even player power or you get ArcheAge power gaps, but PVE should be more like old school everquest where power is earned.

Anyways. Looking forward to this release.

MMOs need time and gold sinks more than other games. Mounts serve as a decent chase item that gives you a great convenience once you achieve it. If you don't have them you'd still need some other sink.

Looking forward to this. GW1 and GW2 are a couple of my favorite mmos. Let's hope they don't screw it up.

I think they're going back to a more GW1 style where there's "hubs" for gathering but the world/dungeons etc are small group.

I enjoyed GW2 until I got banned for exploiting that smelting pot mystic forge refining thing.

Saw yesterday where the developers addressed questions and one was that GW3 will be between 1 and 2 in terms of the massively MORPG. Speculation is that they are moving away from the need for very large groups for world encounters and focusing on smaller groups.

  • Guild Wars 3 is taking place 1200 years before Guild Wars 1, just before the first Guild War broke out and just after one of the gods has been deposed.
  • No subscription and no battle pass (Colin thinks battle pass is just masked subscription and they don't want players being hostages).
  • Their main two core pillars for Guild Wars 3 (that they can reveal right now) are "freedom of movement" and combat.
  • One of the concept arts was shown and Colin said that it showcases what they want their combat to be. On the art piece you can see someone cutting off hand of the boss with a jump attack.
  • Combat is being built from the ground up for both mouse & keyboard and controller and they hope it will be the next major evolution of MMORPG combat.
  • Colin mentioned that unlike other MMO teams they don't start development of new game with story, gameplay or technology in mind but asking the question what are the current pain points and problems for MMORPG players and what can we do to solve them.
  • Colin also mentioned that Guild Wars 3 is being designed as a next major step in MMORPG genre, they don't want to make just another MMORPG but a next evolution. He also mentioned that he is aware that there is a possibility that it can fall flat on its face and be a failure, but someone has to try to push the genre forward cause its stagnated.

they need to fix the gay and juvenile dialogue if they’re doing a living story again.

I tried GW2 a few times and just couldn't get into it. I wasn't a fan of the weapon change and skill swapping system if I remember correctly. But MMORPG is a dead genre so I will definitely give it ashot.
