Picture quality on plasmas has always been near [or at] the top in dark rooms, the downsides were burn in and high glare. It seems based on this thread the that current Plasma TVs seem to be top of the heap in terms of quality. When did this happen?
Seems like i am, what is the difference between burn in and image retention?I think you're confusing Burn In with Image Retention. Burn In is pretty much a thing of the past. IR is still a concern, but it is not a permanent issue and is usually easily resolved.
Nothing really compares to the new Panasonics for Image Quality and price/performance.
They're a lot thinner than they used to be, my ST60 is thinner than the 2008 (I think) LCD I replaced. They're notsuper-thin, the ST60 says 2" (1.7" general depth) on the product sheet, though it does have a border on it that is really thin. It does not look bulky at all.How thick are plasmas these days? I have to say I am in love with the fact that my 60" LED is like 3/4" thick.
I have a Sharp Aquos 80" for media room, and Panasonic ST60 for the living room. The Plasma does have minor glare issues if lighting is directly behind it, but still very clear with a lot of ambient light in the room. The black's are amazing.I am currently thinking about a 60/70/ 80 sharp aquos. Has anyone tried these? How would they compare to the 60 plasma Panasonics that seem to be all the rage? Has there been any reports of burn issues with the 2013 plasmas?
I saw the aquos 80" at costco yesterday, blew me the fuck away. Can't even believe fucking costco sells it. Did you wall mount it or put it on a stand, my living room 60" is wall mounted now and I'd prefer to keep it that way if I went 80 or 90".The Sharp 80" is really an awesome TV. I got the 2012 model which is back-lit and has a more uniform picture than the 2013 edge-lit models. BD movies or gaming looks phenomenal, and even OTA HD stuff is really impressive. Game of Thrones scenery (riverlands, king's landing, essos) is just fucking awesome. Typically had 8-10 family/friends come over and watch episodes last season, and plan on doing the same next year. Recommend both TV's highly.
I know NOTHING about monitors and TV's, can I get a monitor that size that I can watch cable and play a console on?At that size, get a computer monitor that has built in speakers. You will be hard pressed to find a 1080p tv that small. Most are 720p at 32 inches and smaller.
LG's smaller LCD TV line is well known for being some of the best for gaming. Low input lag, and when calibrated the colors are excellent (for an LCD). I have an older model LG 32" (32LH30) I use for console gaming. Not sure if the new ones are up to the quality of mine - IPS, low lag, great colors, 1080p - but LG has always been underrated in the TV department. At that size, get a computer monitor that has built in speakers.
