Leave Saturday for MN. The mayo clinic I went to in FL finally referred me to the main clinic.

Well not great news. Had the big eye exam today and have retinopathy in one of my eyes. Other one seems fine, or fine enough.

For background I'm 41 and been type 2 for about 15 years.

I got a go back and do the test where they put dye in your veins and take pics of the eyes.

Treatment options are shitty to even shittier - laser or needle in my eye. I'm 100% going to do it, but it's a scary thought. The other option is of course going blind.

I'm a compliant diabetic, but probably could've taken a lot better care of myself. If I needed a kick in the ass, this is it.

Kind of in a depressed mood but I am glad we caught it on my yearly eye exam.

Update:
I havent taken any Metoprolol since the night of the 22

I haven’t had any AFIB episodes since the morning of Friday the 25th and ending around 4pm PST(they went away without taking any medication, and the sensation was more annoying than concerning). I really REALLY hope that’s a good sign. Laying down doesn’t seem to be triggering anything anymore. I still don’t want caffeine or exercise until I speak with the cardiologist though. If the AFIB episodes started Thursday the 17th, I’ve now had more days without (8) than with (5).

Walking doesn’t seem to trigger a response, nor does lifting anything mildly heavy. Every night before I go to bed, my heart rate has dipped into the high 40s bpm range (ER doctor said that if that ever occurs to NOT take the medication they prescribed)

However, I do feel like I’m having general anxiety issues (mostly because I admit I’m worried of the physical symptoms returning). I think it’s made me more “hyper aware” of my own heart beat, I tend to be able to hear it when I’m sitting down at rest. But when I check my pulse, it’s typically no higher than it should be(mid 50s-low 60s). I’ve also ditched my Apple Watch for now since wearing it made me constantly want to check my heart rate which was prob messing with my anxiety.

I see the cardiologist next Wednesday and I really hope that if I’ve had no AFIB episodes by then, the doctor will conclude that I was suffering from very high anxiety issues for several days and that’s what caused the AFIB.

Current resting heart rate is 55 bpm

edit: I forgot to mention, my mother developed AFIB at some point several years ago and has been medicated since. However, in her case, when the AFIB started, it NEVER went away on its own. Even for a day.
Update:

mother fucker, the AFIB started again at about 1:25 am this morning

Again, the only time it’s been triggered is while I was laying down.

I had to take a metoprolol to get it under control

I still don’t understand how a condition where your heart has an internal electrical issue can apparently “cycle off” for nearly a full week

I see the cardiologist on Wednesday hopefully he has answers and also doesn’t simply gloss over the fact my issues have only occurred while laying down or at least a reasonable explanation of why it wouldn’t matter: as long as I don’t wake up with it, walking, lifting, sitting and other various other activities don’t set off an AFIB episode

edit: walked up a flight of stairs just now and According to my smartwatch, my HR peaked at about 100, but started to drop once I stopped and started taking an ECG reading

ECG came back as normal rhythm
