Hate even talking about this shit, but that delay in getting my blood thinners because of waiting for shitty insurance seems to have fucked up my already weird ass woman shit. 10 days now and it’s not stopping at all. Had messaged my docs before the weekend and they recommended the ER, but I don’t think I can afford to go with my $7k deductible plan. Sitting here now wondering if I should just bite it and go, or just ride it out a little longer and hope it stops and pop some iron supplements in the meantime.

OK I'm reading between the lines but are you saying you are having a period for 10 days? If so yes you need to bite the bullet and go to the ER. When that happened to my mom she had to have a full hysterectomy.

As I feared, I’m apparently fine and going to enjoy a few $k bill just to get a referral to a gyn. Frustrating.
Peace of mind and all that. I know it sucks but it was the right thing to do. My better half has an artificial heart valve and her normal INR was 3.3. When she had her monthly friend it was all hands on deck. This health shit isn't fair.

Apparently I'm gross and unremarkable. That doesn't sound nice ...........................
Unless it's your MRI results.

Soonest opening for the gyno I was referred to: late February. Soonest opening for literally anyone in that entire department: late December. Fuck this shit.

If it's not life threatening take the late December appt. If it is call them back and tell them it won't work for you. Unfortunately this is our state of healthcare. Giving up is what they want you to do.

No they don't want you to give up, they want you to come in every 2 weeks for unnecessary visits they can charge you for to schedule procedures you don't need.

The ACA might honestly be the worst piece of legislation ever passed in this country because now that "everyone" has "healthcare" (insurance isn't healthcare), and most of it is subsidized, they get to overbook and overcharge without worry of it harming their practice the way it should.

I had a severe ear infection a few years ago where my ear drum felt like it was about to burst. An ENT told me they couldn't see me for 6 months. Thankfully my PCP had a last minute cancellation and got me in.

The state of healthcare in this country is retarded.

Counterpoint from someone in healthcare

If your PCP was able to handle it, why bemoan that you couldn’t get in to see an ENT?

I know a few ENTs and they bemoan the fact that most patients get sent to them without any prior workup-up for things a PCP could handle, which contributes massively to them being booked up for people that actually need them

Two main things
1. My pcp couldn't get me in so I reached out to the ENT with what I thought was an urgent request
2. I wanted to avoid the ER which was the next plan

For some more info I went to urgent care twice because my PCP couldn't see me. The ENT was only after urgent care failed to fix it. Long story with that which lead me to some of the worst pain in my life.

I understand where you're coming from but I felt like the healthcare system failed me massively.

Yeah one of the biggest problems in healthcare IMO is that despite the soaring costs/spending every year somehow the system has managed to reduce physician reimbursement dramatically over time.

As a result while in the 90s a typical PCP may have had slots open for same day / next day bookings that simply isn’t realistic today you have to slam through patient after patient just to keep your pay stable in real terms (not in terms of inflation) and you don’t have any time/room to keep slots open. Many places including urgent care use NPs for these sick visits nowadays but many of them are useless for actual illnesses which it sounds like you had.

You basically need to look into concierge/direct primary care these days to get the actual quality care of decades past by paying cash for it
