OK I'm reading between the lines but are you saying you are having a period for 10 days? If so yes you need to bite the bullet and go to the ER. When that happened to my mom she had to have a full hysterectomy.Hate even talking about this shit, but that delay in getting my blood thinners because of waiting for shitty insurance seems to have fucked up my already weird ass woman shit. 10 days now and it’s not stopping at all. Had messaged my docs before the weekend and they recommended the ER, but I don’t think I can afford to go with my $7k deductible plan. Sitting here now wondering if I should just bite it and go, or just ride it out a little longer and hope it stops and pop some iron supplements in the meantime.
This is serious shit. Go to the emergency room. My wife almost died cause of bad doctors and heavy periods. yes saving money will do you a lot of good when you are dead. This is serious shit. Go to the emergency room. My wife almost died cause of bad doctors and heavy periods. Shit is serious
Peace of mind and all that. I know it sucks but it was the right thing to do. My better half has an artificial heart valve and her normal INR was 3.3. When she had her monthly friend it was all hands on deck. This health shit isn't fair.As I feared, I’m apparently fine and going to enjoy a few $k bill just to get a referral to a gyn. Frustrating.

If it's not life threatening take the late December appt. If it is call them back and tell them it won't work for you. Unfortunately this is our state of healthcare. Giving up is what they want you to do.Soonest opening for the gyno I was referred to: late February. Soonest opening for literally anyone in that entire department: late December. Fuck this shit.

100% truth.I had a severe ear infection a few years ago where my ear drum felt like it was about to burst. An ENT told me they couldn't see me for 6 months. Thankfully my PCP had a last minute cancellation and got me in.
The state of healthcare in this country is retarded.

Two main thingsCounterpoint from someone in healthcare
If your PCP was able to handle it, why bemoan that you couldn’t get in to see an ENT?
I know a few ENTs and they bemoan the fact that most patients get sent to them without any prior workup-up for things a PCP could handle, which contributes massively to them being booked up for people that actually need them

Yeah one of the biggest problems in healthcare IMO is that despite the soaring costs/spending every year somehow the system has managed to reduce physician reimbursement dramatically over time. Two main things
1. My pcp couldn't get me in so I reached out to the ENT with what I thought was an urgent request
2. I wanted to avoid the ER which was the next plan
For some more info I went to urgent care twice because my PCP couldn't see me. The ENT was only after urgent care failed to fix it. Long story with that which lead me to some of the worst pain in my life.
I understand where you're coming from but I felt like the healthcare system failed me massively.
Ear infection is basically what Urgent Care places are made for even though they are ripoffs. If you need to be seen immediately but it's not life-threatening or going to need surgery/etc then urgent care works great, they can do stitches, prescribe meds, etc. Anything more serious and they just kick you to the ER.Two main things

I would argue in reality urgent cares in 2025 are more for people who need a work note and/or do not actually need to be seen for their "sniffles" but want a placebo Rx of Antibiotics +/- SteroidsEar infection is basically what Urgent Care places are made for even though they are ripoffs. I'm not a fan of urgent care places but it sounds like this is one of the scenarios where they make sense.
Where would you tell a person to go then if they had something minor in the grand scheme of things i.e. not life threatening but also it can't wait?I would argue in reality urgent cares in 2025 are more for people who need a work note and/or do not actually need to be seen for their "sniffles" but want a placebo Rx of Antibiotics +/- Steroids
Edit: I did get stiches at one once when I had a cut that would not stop bleeding spontaneously, and that was a good use case as well
