The argument isn't hard. I made it clearly and concisely. They said they wouldn't make the kickstarter rewards available through other means leading people to believe that what they were buying into was actually exclusive. It took them all of... 14? ... days to go the other direction with that. It now take a pro player one full year to realize the advantage they bought over the $250 tiers. If the PVE "loot" includes PVP cards/tournament credit/wahetever, then they lost out double.
If the pro player doesn't like it, the pro player can switch tiers, and really they *haven't* offered the exclusive pro player reward to the others. If this was offering the exclusive pro player reward, then so is the "3 free drafts" reward in one of the other stretch goals. This is just "52 free drafts", non-stacking. Unless the game crashes and burns, pro-player is still a gigantic improvement over the year of free drafting. Hell, if Magic had done something like this, I would have had 20 years worth of booster drafts (not that booster drafting was even a glimmer in anyone's eye when Alpha hit).

And besides, like I mentioned earlier, pro player is really the only tier that *didn't* have a proper exclusive reward (except the tournament). Anyone can get drafts for the rest of their life. They just need to pay 7$ a week for the privilege. This is a much fuzzier issue than them reprinting the lotus garden a year down the line would be, or giving everyone raidleader's blessing. Like I've mentioned a couple of times, I don't like it, but it's not the same thing as them promptly about facing on their promise of exclusivity.

Anyway, I sure wish this issue would just die down so people would go back to actually talking about the game...

I duno about you the kickstarter is still going... so they can give out kickstarter rewards still?
Yes they can and they can certainly change them up however they see fit. Nothing is charged to you until it funds which means you also have the ability to change your pledge at anytime (even multiple times).

Of course, everything is a matter of degrees. 3 free drafts != a year of free drafts != a lifetime of free drafts. That doesn't mean there isn't shades of grey to it. I can just as easily play it the other way. If raid leader had gotten 10 years of free drafts, would you feel any different? They absolutely, 100% did make an about face on that promise.

And, please, stop with the love-it-or-leave-it bullshit. It's perfectly acceptable for a person who took the pro player tier to voice their displeasure.

If you think about it for a minute the other tiers getting a year of free drafts will encourage more people to pledge and more people pledging only increases your long-term investment in the Pro Player tier as you continue to get more free drafts. Giving other tiers 10 years of free drafts would be far in excess of the goal of encouraging people to pledge to the kickstarter.

Now I certainly agree that they should show more PvE previews and encourage people to pledge to other tiers by showing how awesome they are on their own merits but the Pro Player tier free draft for life is so stupidly good that it would have been very hard to bring the other tiers in line with it without handing out ridiculously more packs of cards or nerfing the pro player tier exclusive outright. (And honestly if they had nerfed it to say 3 years of free drafts that would have STILL been amazing)

Ask yourself why you are investing in this kickstarter? Is it not to play a game that you want to be successful? Even if only to get extra rewards from the kickstarters those rewards values are directly related to how successful the game is. More pledge's = higher potential chance of success which means there is absolutely no reason for them provide any more bonuses to the Pro Player tier. And as a Pro Player tier subscriber myself I would much rather they increase the value of my pledge by the much more effective method of bringing in more players!

And since the Pro Player, Grand King and Dragon Lord tiers are still sold out I would say a great number of people can see the benefit quite clearly.

Where they screwed up was offering so little. I dont think people would feel its not exclusive still if they offered double the slots to each tier that they have going on now. I would have probably gotten one, but I had some rl stuff come up that took money and since drafts are what I liked in mtg, I probably wont bother with the game now.

Of course. You're welcome to be pissed, by all means. I even mentioned in my original post that if I were just a pro player, I'd be a bit rankled myself. I don't think that there's much question that the *perceived* value of the pro-player tier dropped a little because of this change, if just in comparison. Its actual value of course, changed not at all, and I think we can all agree that it certainly was and probably still is, far and away the best of the 250$ tiers.

Whether a person believes they went back on their word, however, is entirely a semantic argument on the nature of the "exclusivity" of the pro-player tier, and hence sort of pointless. I don't believe it does, as I believe any exclusivity it has is as a result of the lifetime nature of it. You do, and I see your argument. If the game doesn't even last a year, after all, that's one and the same thing. That's great. Let's all hug and actually talk about the game if we're all that invested in it.

So, how about that Void Leech Phantasm, huh? Think this will actually end up being a game with only relatively weak counterspells? Sort of looks like it thus far.

What non-kickstarter means are there for getting exclusive rewards ?

New article up, and it's a good one:http://hextcg.com/the-krakens-lair/

I've got to say, this looks pretty bad ass. Details a dungeon in a little more depth, including mentioning some interesting branch triggers. Beat a particular mission without killing an obnoxious troop, get a benefit later. I'm hoping the benefit is somehow tied to unique rewards, but it's pretty cool however you slice it. Got to love the kraken tentacles that actually remove troops from your deck for the entirety of the dungeon crawl also.

And the lore/branches being different for different factions and even different races within the faction is good news for the replayability of the PvE experience.

On top of that, we even get our first multi-color synergy card spoiled for us. Hope there's a good chunk of mana fixing for it.

Would have liked to see more detail about exactly how PvE cards get rewarded at the end of the dungeon, but I can wait for that. From information thus far, it sort of looks like it's just once at the end of the dungeon, which might make for quite a grind (and make dungeon crawler that much more useful). With 14 nodes in that dungeon, could take quite a while for a full clear (and they've said that the loot gets better the more you've done for the most part)

I was at work and so I missed the results of all the controversy over the final stretch goal and the draft whining. The goal looks like it got changed and they removed the free 1 year draft for all the 250 donors. Did a dev post anything about this? The forums for the most part look to have been cleared.

Read the updates. They took away the 1 year free drafts from the stretch goal and just gave them to each tier.

Heh, should we be concerned that both the boss and the lead designer are terrible at their own game ? ;p

Interesting that the interface shows 3 pieces of equipment per card, not 2. I wonder if it's going up and the cards are behind, or going down and the UI is behind.
Where have you seen 3 pieces of equipment per card in the interface? All of the spoiled cards have only had two attached to them, I'm pretty sure. The only time I can recall seeing 3 pieces of equipment for a card is in the example of 3 set pieces unlocking a set only card, and that's a slightly different case. Curious if I misremembered something though.

From the video I quoted - after he finishes his game, he tools about in the deck builder for a bit, and each card has three equipment icons

Video was hilarious. Both were using MTG terms and one of the cards was called murder with the same casting cost and text on the card as the magic one and the color was Blackood. I'll probably stick with the pro player tier, but it seems less likely to be easy to resell to get my money back if I don't like the game.

Still looking forward to this... but really hoping that they start to branch out a bit and we see some interesting new things. Thus far it has basically been "Magic, but with different words because those are trademarked!" demos.

It is not necessarily a bad thing. I rather them work around a proven infrastructure and balance/innovate around that rather than start from scratch and fail miserably.

MTG is the best TCG out there, and the biggest gripe is that their online version is garbage. I don't have to time to sit down and go through a thousand physical cards. I am just hoping their PVE will live up to our expectations, as this seems to be their biggest innovation.
