Love mtg, still fire up "shandralar" but I hate the p2w aspect of these kick starter bonuses. Why can't they just release a dotpw 2013 with deck building. I just do not get how you guys can drop so much cash into a game like this. Are you not worried about it being a meh mtg clone. Don't get me wrong I spend tones of cash on games, but $300??

I think a lot of people are looking at these $250 - $500 donation levels as easy short / long term investments, not that the game is going to be awesome super happy fun times for them to spend the money on. Knowing how much people spend IRL on Magic, Yu Gi Oh, and other TCGs, the $250 level kind of just seems like it should pay for it self easily. And with a free draft per week for life (+ other bonuses depending on level), it is potentially a continual source of income.

If it fails and bombs oh well you're out $250. But if it takes off, man some cards go for stupid cash for people trying to build decks.

I have spent more then $200 on path of exile and I don't regret a single penny. Now this game isn't out yet but this is coming from a company with a proven track record making TCG games.
Good games are worth the money.

Selix did you turn into a HEX shill over night? lol

Anyway, I'm following this game with the folks over at F13.net and those guys are pretty sharp when it comes to TCGs.

I backed.
Will be interesting to see if this goes anywhere near as far as it has potential to.

I don't know anyone that's played the WoW TCG. I bought a few packs but have never read the rules or played the game. Was the game any good or did people buy it to get some epic turtle mount or whatever? Either way, they do have experience in the area to learn from and have a chance at being successful.

$250 is really a steal if the game is good. I know a lot of people that would have played MTGO if it was sub based. $250 can be thought of as a 2 year subscription commitment that costs $10 a month for $20worth of boosters a month. While you have to draft with them, if you rare draft you could easily make a profit if the average card value is >$1 per pack.

Historically, online TCGs have never done well, even when backed by great IPs. Stargate,Star Trek, Star Wars, Everquest, Lord of the Rings. I can only hope the trend changes though =)

Goddamnit, I just went from $35 to the Pro Player Tier. If the free draft tourney every week is only 3 packs that is then that is $300 worth of packs even if you don't win a single one of them. As someone who spent north of $300 off and on in MTGO booster drafts this one is an absolute no brainer.

I totally understand where you are coming from, but these guys have a chance to catch lightining in a bottle if their game turns out to be half as good as MTG. MTGO is fun to play a game on, but everything else about the interface, community, and trading was complete dogshit. A game built from the ground up to enable playing, trading, and social interaction without having the burden of the physical cards is exactly what I've been waiting to play. I have been whoring this out to my friends and telling them that they should jump on the Pro Player tier even if it is just to sell the rares and the account bonus if they end up hating it.

Magic's online game interface is horrendous, even the new version they have in beta. I have no idea why WOTC hasn't leveraged all the income they generate from digital cards to hiring the best UI designer out there and revamping the ~8 year old piece of crap they are using.

Someone making an online-only MODO clone with a decent UI and some extras could make some big bucks.

Wizards outsources almost all of their software dev to India. I was talking to a Dev who was the last guy left a year or so ago and he was managing outsourced resources rather than actually coding much himself and he hated it and was looking for a job.

Back on topic: The 3 tiers that I'm debating between are one of the cheap ones, the king (phooey on missing early bird!), and the pro player. The thing is.. I get HEAVILY into games and then unless they really click, I usually move on. I was stupid excited about Solforge after playing the Alpha at Pax and 6 months later I'm much more meh about it. Might be good, might be crap. It is a lot harder than people think (imo) to replicate just how interesting and interactive MTG is. Sooo.. leaning towards just kicking in a paltry amount, but will be pretty sad if it ends up being a massive success.

What I've seen so far seems great and all, but I'm still held up on one thing. They're calling this an MMO, but it looks like all the content is meant to be done alone except 3 players raids and PvP. Is the 'MMO' bit coming from 3 player raids, PvP, and the auction house alone?

I've recently been getting into more TCG and board games in general, I just don't have anyone to play with around here really and barely anyone shows up at the comicbook shop near my house, it's a shame. This certainly looks really fucking interesting and I can't wait to try it.. and blow all my money. :'D

Yeah I don't think the MMO name is accurate, I think what they meant is more like a multiplayer RPG TCG game. You have the RPG aspect with a character you choose that evolves with levels and you increase its stats and change its equipement and shit, and it's multiplayer cause you can play with a few people and shit and there's a story and what not, but at no point is it really massive(the first M), it's small scale online stuff. So it's not really mmo, but I guess the term is misused all the time nowadays, like how Marvel is also in this forum even though it's a diablo-like and has nothing to do with a mmo either.

Anyway on price, I think while there's no guarantee this will be well invested money, the issue is the investment assuming the game is ok/good is extremely solid. If the game isn't, it might be a bad investment or you might be able to get some of your money back selling your shit. However because it's a TCG if you like the game, you will end up investing a lot of money and if you skip the kickstarter chance it'll feel extremely inefficient in comparison. I remember back when I played MTG, when a new expansion would come, you kinda had to buy a box of boosters so you'd get a large amount of the new cards to build decks around and shit. Because you'll often need 4 copies of each card and you want to build multiple different decks because it's the fun part, you need a lot of cards regardless.

At first I backed for 20$ for beta access however beta is in a while and the kickstarter will stop before beta starts. 20$ really gets you nothing if the game is good though, I mean like I'd probably spend 60$ right away after that to get a decent bunch of cards. So for now I updated to 120$, it's a solid tier, and at this point it's like buying a CE for a game, which isn't too bad(maybe a bit more expensive). I'm cconsidering going 250$, I'll wait until we see a few more videos and shit. The thing is 250$ pack, even if you don't like the game, I'm sure you could resell within a month of release for... 250$. Even if you open all the shit. There will be a fanboy of the game somewhere that missed out or didn't have the money and will buy the chance of having 3free boosters a week forever. Maybe you have to cut prices down to 150$ or whatever but still I'm sure it'll sell, so it's a fairly "safe" investment.

If you think you'll like the game and want to dive in and take your chances, more power to you. But all I'm really seeing is people trying to justify dumping a pretty respectable amount of cash into a game that's not even out yet, nor even in beta. I'm making no judgements - just be honest with yourselves.

Yep. I don't know if these guys can make a decent video game but they sure as hell know how to make kickstarter reward tiers.

Isn't what this forum is about? Instead of debating about preordering for $60 and then $15 a month and wondeing if they will be able to churn out content to satisfy everyone we are talking about the most value out their system for an online TCG.

The MMO is really not an MMO except it's in the title of the game. You have guilds and PVE stuff like dungeons and campaigns that you can play with other people. There is also MMORPG progression in the game (which is really just normal RPG progression) with levels, avatars, gearing out cards, leveling cards, gem socketing etc.

That's where the "MMO" part comes in.

Also, these guys are a legit company (making the WOW TCG) which is the only reason why I'm paying attention to them. So they know how to make card games. The game is already nearly done and this just seems like a marketing strategy. I will also not hesitate pulling my pledge if it turns out some of the questions I know that are being asked today come back with retarded answers; namely secondary markets or the ability to "cash out" on your cards.

I won't play a game where I can't collect and sell stuff, which was always the best part of CG's imo.
