I've never had a reason to try it but can't you go in and pledge any amount, and as long as it is before the final deadline - cancel/change the amount?Prove it.
I have spent more then $200 on path of exile and I don't regret a single penny. Now this game isn't out yet but this is coming from a company with a proven track record making TCG games.Love mtg, still fire up "shandralar" but I hate the p2w aspect of these kick starter bonuses. Why can't they just release a dotpw 2013 with deck building. I just do not get how you guys can drop so much cash into a game like this. Are you not worried about it being a meh mtg clone. Don't get me wrong I spend tones of cash on games, but $300??
I don't know anyone that's played the WoW TCG. I bought a few packs but have never read the rules or played the game. Was the game any good or did people buy it to get some epic turtle mount or whatever? Either way, they do have experience in the area to learn from and have a chance at being successful.I have spent more then $200 on path of exile and I don't regret a single penny. Good games are worth the money.
I totally understand where you are coming from, but these guys have a chance to catch lightining in a bottle if their game turns out to be half as good as MTG. MTGO is fun to play a game on, but everything else about the interface, community, and trading was complete dogshit. A game built from the ground up to enable playing, trading, and social interaction without having the burden of the physical cards is exactly what I've been waiting to play. I have been whoring this out to my friends and telling them that they should jump on the Pro Player tier even if it is just to sell the rares and the account bonus if they end up hating it.I don't know anyone that's played the WoW TCG. $250 is really a steal if the game is good. I know a lot of people that would have played MTGO if it was sub based. $250 can be thought of as a 2 year subscription commitment that costs $10 a month for $20worth of boosters a month. While you have to draft with them, if you rare draft you could easily make a profit if the average card value is >$1 per pack.
Historically, online TCGs have never done well, even when backed by great IPs. Stargate,Star Trek, Star Wars, Everquest, Lord of the Rings. I can only hope the trend changes though =)
Wizards outsources almost all of their software dev to India. I was talking to a Dev who was the last guy left a year or so ago and he was managing outsourced resources rather than actually coding much himself and he hated it and was looking for a job.Magic's online game interface is horrendous, even the new version they have in beta. I have no idea why WOTC hasn't leveraged all the income they generate from digital cards to hiring the best UI designer out there and revamping the ~8 year old piece of crap they are using.
Someone making an online-only MODO clone with a decent UI and some extras could make some big bucks.
Yeah I don't think the MMO name is accurate, I think what they meant is more like a multiplayer RPG TCG game. You have the RPG aspect with a character you choose that evolves with levels and you increase its stats and change its equipement and shit, and it's multiplayer cause you can play with a few people and shit and there's a story and what not, but at no point is it really massive(the first M), it's small scale online stuff. So it's not really mmo, but I guess the term is misused all the time nowadays, like how Marvel is also in this forum even though it's a diablo-like and has nothing to do with a mmo either. What I've seen so far seems great and all, but I'm still held up on one thing. They're calling this an MMO, but it looks like all the content is meant to be done alone except 3 players raids and PvP. Is the 'MMO' bit coming from 3 player raids, PvP, and the auction house alone?
Yep. I don't know if these guys can make a decent video game but they sure as hell know how to make kickstarter reward tiers. If you think you'll like the game and want to dive in and take your chances, more power to you. But all I'm really seeing is people trying to justify dumping a pretty respectable amount of cash into a game that's not even out yet, nor even in beta. I'm making no judgements - just be honest with yourselves.
Isn't what this forum is about? Instead of debating about preordering for $60 and then $15 a month and wondeing if they will be able to churn out content to satisfy everyone we are talking about the most value out their system for an online TCG.If you think you'll like the game and want to dive in and take your chances, more power to you.
