Yeah major storm tore through. Lasted all of an hour but we got nearly instant 60mph winds. It's a HUGE tree from the neighbors yard. This is just one of the limbs..

$4k for tree company to remove it. Insurance claim opened obviously.

The pool damage is possibly substantial. One "panel" the top got crushed down and the side is bent outward. Also it's leaking, I think from a hose but will reassess.

Fuck my life

Sticking with dewalt myself, so far only one impact failed (the compact one, normal one has been fine)and I beat the shit out of them daily in nasty environments.
Co-worker using Milwaukee and same, I do like his impact better because it is lighter and the battery is smaller. Pick a battery economy and stick with it they all expensive as fuck.

I started out with some black and decker stuff that I got as a gift but it was crap and quit working after a couple of years plus the lithium batteries were coming out so I did research and at the time decided that Makita were the best so I bought their starter kit. Now I probably have 20 tools and 8 or 10 batteries. I also convinced my brother to go Makita (he was DeWalt before that but only I had a few tools so he's got quite a few Makita tools as well and we pool them. 15 years later I find myself occasionally coveting Milwaukee but not nearly enough to switch over.

All my battery stuff is Ridgid and will probably stay that way for the foreseeable future. Everything is very comfortable to use and has never had an issue so no major reason to change. Even their little battery circular saw I use more than my tethered Makita. That thing is nice. My tethered stuff is Makita for whatever reason. Probably b/c the 1st circular saw I got was one.

In other news, probably going to have to replace the double sink bathroom vanity in the kid's hallway bathroom. Just don't know if I want to do it now or wait for 2-3 years until we sell the house. Some pretty bad water damage under sink in the cabinet bottom. Honestly isn't worth changing now but is irritating. If I change it it'll probably get ruined again before we sell.

Well I had ryobi because it was cheap. I got a few drill/impact sets for here and up in my cabin. It was good stuff for what I I used it for around the house and cabin. But once my son got into trades he started buying up all sorts of dewalt shit. Like ALL of them, lol. So he was giving me a driver or a impact here and there, because he got a "better" one, lol. And then we had some car trouble so I bought the dewalt monster impact, the 1200FT/LB mo-fo. Worth every penny. So now I guess im a dewalt main.

Edit: Oh and I have the ryobi 16" chain saw too. That thing is a fucking beast. We had some oak root rot up in my cabin, oak trees everywhere were dead. That little fucker took down like 10 trees and cut them all up like butter. Same fucking chain too. I even bought another chain for a spare but the thing just keep cutting lie a champ. Ive had the thing for like 4-5 yrs now and it starts right up, no problems. I would rate that little saw 5/5.

I love my electric chainsaw too. I have 2 24" blade gas saws but if the little electric can handle the job that's what I am going to use. So light and quiet and it just works unlike the gas saws.

I’d like to try a chainsaw and maybe add one to my Ego setup. I just bought an Echo 2620 trimmer because my yard is just too large to run a hedge trimmer, string trimmer, and blower on two batteries and anyways even buying extra Chinese batteries was irritating so I just got a gas edger.

I find the Echo significantly lighter than the Ego with a 5AH battery. Way more comfortable to use and I can do my whole front, back, beds, and other stuff on like 1/4 tank. Love this damn thing.

We had a large downed tree (different one than this debacle) across several yards and all the neighbors pitched in cutting it up.

Everyones gas chainsaws just had so many issues. Then my father in law is there with his little rinky dink electric one that just worked all day with no issues. It was kind of wild.

Thy are all 2 cycle and rarely used in a neighborhood like yours scenario. so they sit there with old bad gas in them for sometimes years. So yeah, they are not going to run so well. In any 2 cycle running like shit, mix up a new gallon of 50:1 and use that. Pour the old shit in your lawmower.

I have an electric one that I got quite a few years ago and, yeah, it works, but sometimes just stops because its under powered. The ryobi I have chops through 20" oak trees like a champ, and it was cheap too.

the newer ryobi hp chainsaws are all brushless now so you don't have to worry about smoking the motor and i've seen ppl hack shit up for days using the backpack

I had not seen one of these before. And whereas I know I have no legit use for one (I have a few 40v tools, but not the chainsaw yet) I now have a powerful need....

it also comes w/ a backpack charger, so you can just plug in the backpack to charge all 4 (the connection is also a real 40v battery) batteries at once

They removed the tree, like crazy fast too. 2 hours. The machinery they used was impressive, I know why it cost $4k.now.

Assessing the damage, my deck is mostly unscathed. Looks like my vinyl railing fell apart, not even really broken. The only part that feels like it needs to be replaced is the wood post, unless it just got moved a bit. I need to look at that.

Pool definitely got damaged. One panel is crushed a bit, but the overall structure is fine. Unfortunately I had to leave for a trip, so I can't really do anything for it at the moment. I think the inlet/outlet has a hose that either got sliced open or otherwise was ripped out of a fitting because the water leaked to right below it. Rest of the equipment visually looks ok.

Still what a goddamn clusterfuck. Also, this is more me being a whiny shithead probably, but the neighbor whose yard this fell out of never even came over to say sorry or anything. I mean he doesn't owe me anything, but I'd be mortified if that happened to me. I don't need him to pay, but offering would've been cool. Considering this is the 2nd time this has happened.

Also while I'm ranting. I have fucking covid.

Meh we're on good terms and I'm letting insurance handle it. We aren't friends or anything but always say hi. Could be true though
After the second time I would be getting the city involved and making sure your neighbors (and yourself) don't have trees that can fall onto each others' properties. Or require that if they want to keep said trees they have to have and maintain an active insurance policy with you listed as the beneficiary for up to $VALUE_OF_HOUSE_AND_PROPERTY.

Fact is, you should be suing him so his insurance covers all the damages. That wasn't your tree, so you are not responsible.

after asking around, unless the tree is/was visibly bad, nothing you can do. after neighbors tree leaned onto my house last year, insurance upped the deductible on tree damage to $1000, from $250.
