The SFX were horrific in Episode 3. They had interns doing the soundtrack/effects I'd guess. Or a new director.

It was like a highschool project video just some kid pressing suspense sounds and weird noises for the entire hour. Never lets up or moves on throughout the episode.

I get what they were going for, but hopefully that was a one off. It was bad enough I didn't continue with Ep 4.

I wonder if they've ever planned a spin off that is set in the winter. It's probably a pretty boring time but for all of the talk about winter, we've never really seen it except for the very beginning that we saw at the end of GoT.

Jon Snow spinoff was winter at the wall. HBO pushed hard for it with multiple scripts. Kit Harrington said none of them were good enough to sign on.

That's not the winter is coming winter though.

I think the success of Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will change their minds but they seemed nervous moving forward with anything that didn't have a dragon in it.

They originally tried pre covid with a show set in the Age of Heroes with Naomi Watts called Bloodmoon but they didn't end up picking it up even after spending 30m on it.

Wasnt it supposed to be post GoT and him with the wildlings?

I can understand that being kind of difficult - wildling politics? What’s the threat now?

Buddy cop show with Jon Snow and Tormund north of where the Wall was. Like you could probably make that entertaining for a season or two but long term I can see why Kit Harrington was like maybe not. Maybe they could do it now with the length of a Knight of the Seven Kingdoms though.

GoT finale fallout still weighed heavy at the time, from Kit's words.

Kit Harrington was fresh out of rehab after battling pretty bad alcoholism issues that he blamed on the GoT production.

They pivoted with a new writer in a last ditch effort. Putting Jon Snow and Arya together in Essos. Shortly after Kit said to stop development.

If they actually made her a Faceless Man instead of waffling on it I'd be okay with that. Snow being in a foreign land where people hate him because they liked Daenarys could have the danger and drama, but the hard part is the "Why" he is there.

And i believe the GoT made him an alcoholic thing. None of it was hit fault but he sure took the noise personally.

God, that last idea would've been hilariously bad. Didn't Arya say she was heading west at the end of the show anyway? You know, the opposite direction from Essos.

Its been a while but doesn’t the books hint that far north of the wall could potentially lead to Essos? I vaguely remember there being some character or historical book that someone reads that mentioned a specific nation of Essos has their own equivalent of the wall complete with similar myths that echo the white walker threat. We know that the wildlings actually lived within a stones throw of the wall with the more mythical creatures like giants living a great deal beyond that while the white walkers themselves were supposed to be a significant distance further back from the giants.

I always thought a John Snow spinoff would involve him exploring the lost giant territory and venturing into the never been white walker territory concluding with him coming out the other side and eventually meeting up with Ayra and exploring the magical apocalyptic wasteland of the Shadowlands.

Didn’t have John Snow building cabins and dealing with ptsd on my bingo card though.

Thought it was confirmed in the Fire and Blood book that west of westeros leads back to Essos, specifically Asshai. Elissa Farman was the one who tried to sail west of westeros and vanished, never to be seen from again. A long time later Corlys Velaryon sails east of essos (as far east as he dared go) and discovered a desolate, abandoned ghost ship he believed was the Sunchaser rotting in some Asshai port.
