I bought two Honda Civics off Craigslist. Both 99, an EX and an LX. The EX even came with a riceburner aftermarket exhaust and a fully loaded blown out subwoofer that could wake up an entire block! Only $2500!
Both transactions went like this: inspect the car, noticed anything wrong (cat on the EX needed to be hollowed out, etc.), paid upfront cash ($2500, $3000), gave him his plates, drove away. The riceburner was owned by a Puerto Rican and the LX was owned by an Arab, for anyone who enjoys details.
Never had a problem. Went to DMV, got my plates, paid the whatever it was for title and registration, and went on my merry way.

I bought my last one on craigslist. There was a little bit of shadiness about it. I believe the guy purposely hid from us that the headlights didn't work. When we were checking it out, we had him in the car working the switches, and he must have pulled the 'flash to pass' switch instead of turning them on. Because when we got home, we noticed the lights would only come on by doing that. Our mechanic traced the problem down to a module that cost like $700 from the factory, and said he could tell someone had already had the thing out. On top of that, he had the spare tire in storage, said he'd get it to us the next week, and it was about 6 months before I actually got it. We had given up hope at least twice, then he texted me out of the blue with something like "hey I still have your spare tire" and didn't respond when I tried to set up a time to pick it up. I was starting to think he was just teasing me.

No, I think the fuel pump on my LX went. Was at my sisters the RPMs just flatlined after I started up the car, and now it doesn't kick obviously.
Mechanic looking at it now, might have it running by tonight, maybe tomorrow.

Nope, Just got off the phone, didn't show up in the mail today. So, I got the text saying she mailed it Thursday night, but lets assume that means she plans on mailing it. Maybe she put it in an envelope. If it actually went out Friday you would think it would be here, probably Sat, but maybe Mon, hell even Tuesday. So, I'm just going to assume she didn't actually put it out in her box until Sat, maybe even Sunday, and give it a couple more days before I start getting myself all worked up again.

Talk to you insurance company. It was like less than $40 a year to add AAA type roadside services to my plan (3 vehicles) and that includes up to 200 miles of towing.

Yep depending on the company you might already have it too. Some come free when you have comprehensive, or sell it for like 5 bucks like Progressive.
