Because our team owns that AWS account. There is no hard restriction on me firing up any AWS service to solve a software engineering problem. This account has a number of servers and other things that run all of our code doing various things.
You can, in just a few clicks, run up $20k (and $100k+) in spend. Which is why you are policed on it.

They probably have Nessus or something running a canned DNS attack surface scan.
It can be a real vulnerability - i.e. you have a CNAME of company.com pointing to myshit.s3.amazon.com, but deleted the myshit bucket. Someone could theoretically take the "myshit" name and then your CNAME will resolve to their potentially malicious bucket or whatever.

Here's a new one for ya.
One of my offboarding tasks is to setup an AI Agent version of myself for the org. What does this mean? I have absolutely no idea. Best I can figure just keep writing documentation like you would normally do on the way out and spend time writing down all of the institutional knowledge I can remember and feed it to the Agent. Then hope for the best.
The future is wild. I suspect y'all should get used to this.

That illustrates pretty well why I want to get out of this industry. The idea that all of your knowledge, experience and skills can be input into an AI agent and it will be like a clone of you. And it can be done as an offboarding task!
It doesn't matter that it's not possible, the idea itself is laughable, and the people asking are delusional. People, in general, honestly think we are that easily replaceable. Soon it won't even be an ask as an offboarding task, they'll just blatantly ask people to try and create AI versions of themselves so they can be laid off.
This isn't necessarily an issue exclusive to software development. It's just more prevalent.
I'm already very tired of listening to people say things like "My nephew used AI to create an App on the Google Play store and it's already made $2k in 3 months!" and having them genuinely think that means that anyone can be a software developer and create enterprise level applications by just asking AI to "code".

I guess technically that's true if the end goal is automation (and the end goal is probably automation). But to actually ask a person outright to create an "AI clone" of themselves is pretty blatant. If it wasn't so depressing it would be comical.

This is the most asinine request I've ever heard rofl. I assume you're only even giving them the time of day on this because you're still on good terms.
First time in my career at this company I took PTO on Friday because of how burnt out I've become. Going to talk to my boss about it maybe.. I feel like I'm the go to person for way too many people in the company and I'm spending entire days and nights just responding to requests for shit. That's on top of my real job. Like I said, im in a very visible position And I am impressing a lot of very high up people .. but I'm starting to lose my mind a bit.

I have genuinely loved working at this company. I just outgrew it and don't want to wait out how long it will take to create the role above me for the 5th time. I have been the first person in every single role I have had at this company, as I was like the 180th employee. While it was full on in startup mode the company itself is going on 20 years old. They just stayed really really lean for a very long time.
I am just giving it some major workarounds that exist in our infrastructure that I have been the only person to work on in the past 5 years. I may also give it the Warhammer Khazalid dictionary or some bullshit to mess with people though.
If this was a legitimate fuck you to me or I even thought I was being told to make my AI Twin so they could fire me. I would 10000% give it completely incorrect but highly technical solutions that would pass additional scrutiny but lead devs down endless rabbit holes. Because fuck you. If any of you ever get such a task I highly recommend you do the same.

The sword cuts both ways, and its a great way to fight back. I understand why you dont want to do it but the mere ask would piss me off to the point I would do it anyway.
I've spent how many years at this company? I've done how much to increase its revenue? And not only are you not matching a competitors offer youre spitting in my face by suggesting I can distill my own competence into a fucking AI in 2 weeks. Fuck you.
