This is what I use all week while traveling. It's a huge 6+ lb beast of a laptop with 17" screen. I'm in the market for a new laptop but nothing has hit yet that'll do the trick at the price I want. We'll see. :)

Has rtx panned out yet? It’s been over a year and I haven’t heard of any big push in utilizing the rtx stuff in anything. Is nvidia even sticking with it for next gen

I use the Acer Triton 500? Which ever has the 2080 in it. Runs pretty nice for all my TFT needs!

Your mileages may vary, but I don't recommend an MSI. I got a high-end one for $2000 back in early 2017 and while it's still high-powered enough to run things better than my other computers, it has had an insane amount of issues. Keys falling out, pieces of the case just sorta breaking off, battery drain issues, various software components just failing for no reason, the computer randomly crashing if you put too much pressure on the case on the sides of the touchpad, and just generally cheap cost/corner-cutting design. Even though they're weaker spec-wise, none of my other (Lenovo, mainly) laptops do any of this stuff or have had any such problems.

Stay away from MSI.

I've got a question now. I read the last couple pages because I too need a new laptop (since my main one is so shoddy, see above). Don't want to spend much since this is very much an elective purchase, and don't want to downgrade to something worse than what I have spec-wise. Mine has a 7th Gen Intel Core i7 processor and 16 GB of RAM with 1 TB HD + 256 GB SSD.

I'm looking at the higher versions of this. Would it be worth it to splurge for 32 GB RAM?

I guess my real question is... should I get the Acer with 16+256+1TB ($950), 16+512+1TB ($1040), or 32+1TB+1TB ($1230)? I'll go for the highest one if you guys think it's a good deal.

What exactly are you trying to upgrade? If it's just more drive space, I imagine you could just do that instead of a whole new laptop. As far as future proofing I'd also be looking on how to get an 2000 series GPU with the other stuff above.

The laptop I have is basically falling apart on me, parts are all going bad, tired of the hassle of dealing with it.

The only games I play on here are from 10-20 years ago (EQ, LOTRO, WoW, maybe Oblivion/Skyrim at some point) so I probably don't need as much future-proofing as I think I do. Just want the purchase to be worthwhile.

Well, right now I'm back and forth between these two. They're both about the same price. Main difference is the processors and RAM. Any input?

Acer Nitro 5 15.6 FHD, 9th Gen Intel Quad Core i5-9300H up to 4.1GHz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB SSD + 1TB HDD, GeForce GTX 1650 4GB - $1230

VS

ASUS TUF 17.3" FHD, AMD Ryzen 7 3750H Quad-Core up to 4.0GHz, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 512GB SSD + 2TB HDD, GeForce GTX 1650 4GB - $1200

I'm really gunning for a slimline laptop with the Ryzen 7 3850H and no dedicated graphics. 3850H built in graphics are more than adequate for what I'd want in a laptop if its mobile enough.

Both of those are horrid for the price, are you in canada or something?? Ryzen 7 for gaming is kinda meh but 1230 for a i5-9300 is equally meh

If you don't mind 1080p, it's hard to beat the Prefator Helios 300 in value

Avoid china, dont buy lenovo.

Yeah anyways. Lenovo makes good laptops and generally good products in general. However the Acer 300 is good as well, i have the Triton 500? With the 2080 and i had the Y740 with a 2070 previously. I would say the Legion is my preferred due to i like having all the ports in the back, thats a personal preference tho i kinda hate having power adapters or anything on the sides of laptops.
