You guys are working way too hard for these "free" drinks. If you are that desperate to get drunk on the cheap just buy yourself a bottle of vodka for $12 and stop worrying about trying to scam the casinos.
Ha, I was tempted to buy one of the clearly marked up because on the strip bottles of booze on sale at....Walgreens. Coming from a state owned liquor store state that was quite the novelty. I feel like it was just part of the normal Vegas hype, looking forward to the "free drinks" while you stuff money into the machines at the casinos and all.

Hopefully we get a good group together like you guys did a few years ago.
I am thinking we do Fremont experience Thursday and then hit up the late night events back at 1-4am. There is PRX, Triton dudes, Rerollers, my outfit and others I know going to SOE live.

Very cool, I just put down Rerolled as my guild on the registration because I have no other association. Should be fun.

My brother-in-law, his wife, and daughter (7 years old) will be coming to visit my wife and I in December (last 2 weeks). It sounds like they'll be flying into Las Vegas, and we'll drive to meet them (we're about 3.5 hours away). I've only ever been to Vegas for the airport, so I need some advice.

For my wife and I, we don't gamble nor drink much, so we're mostly just interested in shows and food (that's more me, she doesn't care about food).

  • What are the must see shows? It sounds like Ka is pretty high on the list.
  • What hotels meet our needs? I don't have exact dates yet, but the MGM looks like it'd be cheap ($70-100 a night) in December. Is the location passable? Ka is there, so that's a plus. I'm not sure travelling for shows is a huge concern though. Is it close to restaurants? Are there other hotels we should look into?
  • What restaurants/buffets do we absolutely have to go to? Depending on how long we're there, I wouldn't mind hitting a buffet. My wife and I are pretty cheap though, so the likelihood that we'll drop $100+ for the two of us on food is quite low.

Fow now, I'll assume we'll be there 2-3 days. We're close enough that any advice could possibly extend to other trips though.

Best buffets IMHO are Ballagio, Wynn, & Rio in that order. Make sure to hit up the chocolate/dessert shop in the Bellagio too, the one with the big chocolate waterfall. Everything they have is incredible. You could technically eat breakfast there some morning, they serve awesome crepes.

All that being said, I usually only do the buffets in Vegas for breakfast. Dinner at the nicer buffets are going to run you $30+ a person, so for that kind of scratch you might as well eat at a nice restaurant. Vegas tends to have some REALLY high-end restaurants, but then also the chefs that own those restaurants tend to have a lesser, or more casual(re: cheaper) version of their restaurant too. For example, just at MGM, Joel Robuchon has his self-named, high-end restaurant that is going to run $500+ a head at least, but then has his more casual L'atalier that is more in the $50-$100 a head range, and damn near as good. Wolfgang Puck does the same, he has a "Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill" that is very casual and affordable($20-$40 per entree). In fact, the Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill is right outside the KA theater, my wife and I ate there before we saw Ka(awesome) a couple years ago and it was really good.

Anyone ever get a "Terrace Suite" or "Wraparound Terrace Suite" at the Cosmopolitan? Thinking about heading to Vegas for a few nights in July/August and the weekends we've set aside have our typical "Bellagio Suite" all booked up. I'd read that the Cosmopolitan is full of young douche-nozzles and the pool gets pretty wild (not really what we're looking for) - any experience there?

Ya Cosmo is more of a young, douchy hotel. I would stick with Bellagio or try Caesars (really nice rooms) and their Bacchanal buffet is awesome.

Only saw the Cosmo at night after our buffet....but it looked like a much younger crowd than what we had at the Venetian. Like lots of college age nightclub types all over the place. Whether or not they're too loud and disruptive near the suites or pool areas I dunno, didn't stay there.

Tbh we thought it was a pretty obnoxious looking hotel. Like nothing against the place, it looked very comfortable and all, but they went way overboard on modern and chic or whatever the fuck the goal was. 10 years from now they'll need to remodel the whole place or look totally dated and ridiculous.

Ya, that sort of mirrors what I've been told by pals/read. Shame, some of their rooms look really nice (large and reasonably priced) and have outdoor terraces. Need to pull the trigger soon - stayed at Venetian a number of times and like it, really wish Bellagio had the suites we like but nothing is available. I'd like to try the Wynn or Encore out but that is too damned far from the "action" for our tastes. Wish they'd fucking demolish Monte Carlo/Excalibur/NYNY and build something worth a shit in their places.

Don't stay at Planet Hollywood. The rooms are small and the layout of the floor is nonsensical. I swear they hid the elevators on purpose.

Thanks, joeboo. You got any input on hotels? I'm thinking either MGM or Planet Hollywood.
If you pick MGM DO NOT stay at the Signature, the walk to your room from the strip is insane, we found out the hard way.

I don't think the Signature is that bad. It is a decent walk, but the suites are really nice.

PH is awesome. The elevators were the only confusing thing. The location is simply top notch. MGM is too far imo. It's like the Wynn, awesome but too far up/down. Although if you get a chance to stay at Wynn/Encore do it. It's my favorite place to stay for overall comfort and pimpness.

I've been in a suite at Cosmo, pretty awesome. Can't speak for the specific type you mentioned I don't think, there was no terrace, it was on like the 34th floor. Was there for a birthday party, earlier that day my friend's boyfriend got Patrick Stewart to call and wish her a happy birthday by donating to one of his favorite charities. They talked for like 5 minutes, more than just a quick hello, really cool.

Cosmo is always loaded down with chicks, we would go there to drink just to see all the women.

Ya, I reckon I'm going to pull the trigger this weekend on the wraparound terrace suite - Just can't get over the idea of a balcony/outdoor terrace looking out over the Bellagio fountains. The half naked hot chicks will only serve to infuriate the missus, so crazy jealous sex should be on the cards. Thanks for the tips!
