Yeah, basically going Zero Dark Thirty after release is really what totally sank them. They had a LOT of momentum in the space after release, but just squandered all of it by doing jack shit.

It's too bad since they've created one of the best crafting systems in ARPG history. Outside of that though, I can't say they did a whole lot that impressed me.

I would guess major financial mismanagement given the original team is literally some redditors who thought they could do it better than current games at the time were

Yeah I played it a bit longer last season 3? I picked this up way long ago back when I made this thread. Anyway yeah, the game is OK, just OK. Pretty fun, but there is just something about it thats meh. Its hard to describe what it is though...I just dont get the same feels like I do when playing POE1 or POE2. Its kinda like a Diablo 3 for me, just meh. As for the financials, I mean who the fuck knows whats going on there. Plus with a struggle buss at the helm now, thats been losing moneys left and right, you bet your ass they will monetize the shit out of this as much as they can get away with.

The thing he mentioned about the kickstarter, how they said they would never charge again for content after buying in? Well they have a new owner now so that shit is out the window. Let the players decide, and ultimately they will.

I did season 1 and season 2. I still felt combat didn’t land right with me and the game felt too sparse at times. I dunno. Crafting was excellent. The bosses were pretty challenging. I never got that addicting feel from it like PoE or even D3 during RoS. And certainly not like D2. I really need to give Grim Dawn another try.

Yes the systems they have in the game are really nice.

But the animations and gameplay feels very alpha version and floaty.

I played S1 and maybe a day of S2, then they started to release on PoE2 launch and I just forgot about it.

Also they were going to monetize with skins and they all look terrible. I had no inclination to buy any skin at all to support them, ugly shit.

I had zero investment into the game though. But kinda sad seeing fans turn on them, maybe it's deserved.

Doesn’t seem deserved. They’re trying to make a good rpg by selling skins. Their skins aren’t selling well enough so they are starting to charge for expansions/content instead. I don’t see anything wrong with that. Sell content or go under. “Gamers” on the whole seem to be a bunch of entitled children based on comments I see from expansion announcements. In all games, not just this one. They want everything for free and any tiny decision a studio makes that they don’t agree with they make absolutely ridiculous comments about how horrible and greedy the studio is and they won’t support them anymore etc.

I haven’t played this game in a few years but it is a solid game. Has some weird issues with visuals/combat impact that keep it from being top tier but you can still get a shitload of entertainment out of it for $30. Asking for money for expansions/new classes so they don’t fold is fine imo.

They made some promises based around justifying a box price. They sold a shitload of copies at that box price. They put zero effort into keeping their promises after their big pay day came through. They put zero effort into even attempting to create and sell MTX. They very quickly sold to a Korean gacha company who is now doing gacha things.

They absolutely deserve criticism. They are liars.

By the way this game has a box price. Its not free. It never was

I said you can get a lot out of it for $30I never said the game was free. I said people want additional shit for free.

Sounds like the person who promised to sell skins is gone now? And they did try to sell skins but they sucked ass so now the company that bought them changed the way they’ll be making money.

Not sure what they’re doing that’s gacha, they selling loot rolls and shit? The update I read just said they’re selling new content for $, classes. The same thing all non-gacha companies do to keep paying their people.

Buy it or don’t, I don’t give a fuck either way. I won’t be as I don’t play it anymore. Acting like they owe you unlimited free content cause you paid $30 six years ago when they’re basically failing as a company if they don’t is typical entitled gamer attitude.

You believe that they are failing as a company. I'm not sure why. This game is wildly successful and the second they got their major payday they stopped giving a shit. And make no mistake, it was a major payday.

You can believe they are a struggling small indie studio just attempting to keep the lights on, or you can look at how they delivered based on a meager kickstarter and were, at one point, a very efficient small team that made good for YEARS on very little money and garnered a ton of goodwill based on that and then suddenly, inexplicably, couldn't keep the lights on after selling an enormous amount of copies for a huge sum of money.

At the end of the day I really don’t give a shit. If they’re a megacorp lighting cigars with $100 bills then I hope the player base doesn’t buy shit and they go under. If they’re struggling and have to sell their expansions rather than give them away then cool, hope they sell some.

Either way I think gamers expecting every company to just pump out content for free is disgusting. My comments were more about that behavior I see as a whole.

They were trying to take down a behemoth that actually does give away content for free, and they made promises that even though they were going to charge a box price initially they were going to follow that same model. And people bought it. Very literally, with real money, bought it.

They lied. You're wrong.

Yeah, I mean its pretty obvious they cashed out. The money dried out after 1.0 and they didnt sell shit for skins like they thought they would. So instead of doubling down on the game, they sold out. I really dont blame them. /shrug

That amount of money doesn't "dry out" that quick. It was either epic levels of embezzlement or theyre full of shit. I just happen to believe its option 2.

They became much wealthier than they imagined, didn't feel like working anymore, phoned it in for a year then decided it was easier to sell while the IP was still financially appealing rather than doing what they said they would.

It really doesn't matter, but people are justified in their criticism of EHG

Please post their income and expenses in detail that you are using to arrive at this decision. Need that before I can come to a proper judgement.

Is this a joke? Look at the amount of copies they sold within the first 30 days of launch.

Compare that to their small kickstarter, and the trickle of EA purchases that kept them going for years. Years.

You serious?

This game was actually insanely successful. Like... unbelievably so.

It would be interesting to see either way. It's a shame because the game was fun and one of the best before the wheel stopped, seemingly nothing progressed, and they are getting pilloried for charging for things they said they wouldn't.

That’s what I’m asking you for. How many copies did they sell and what were their operating costs. I need to know how many Lamborghinis they were able to buy before I decide if I’m butthurt about selling DLCs or not.

So you had an opinion about how gamers just whine about wanting shit for free without having any idea how many copies they sold or how financially successful the game already was?

Cool story. Learn how to Google, or use your preferred AI

Yes. We paid $30 for a game I got a couple hundred hours out of. Many people got thousands out of it.

The company made a ton of money, probably, I’m not looking up how many they sold.

The company wants to create big downloadable content that we can choose to buy, or not, probably at a reasonable low price, like the base game.

Gamers are whining they want it for free, like they always do. My opinion is still the same. Tired of gamers whining about companies owing them free labor.

Uh sure.

FWIW I agree this game was/is worth the box price. But that doesn't mean the criticism surrounding the company isn't warranted or valid.
