I was pondering this question recently: In LITRPG one of the most common stories is earth introduction to a gamified system. Ex: Primal Hunter, Defiance of the Fall, etc. Are there any actual RPGs that attempt this?

It'd be interesting to play a generative game survival/crafting/building game like Dune Awakening where everyone starts from wilderness ala Minecraft and builds a civilization. All NPCs would be from Earth with varying stories, and there would be some plotline associated with it.

Im like four books into ‘he who fights with monsters’ and its very simple but im enjoying it

i imagine its somewhat similar in quality and complexity as those old ladies reading their romance novel series but im still enjoying it
The guy that writes the stories hasn't updated his site in 6-months. He's been "in hospital". I guess he's British.

I'd like this idea as well. However, given the current state of game design, it seems they have a hard enough time just getting wooden hut crafting done right. Imagine having actual meaningful gameplay that advanced through the technology age and beyond. The amount of assets and mechanisms and interconnectivity would be immense. You'd also have to have some way of keeping the powergamers from blasting through content, but also make it fast enough that casuals feel like they are getting somewhere. Minecraft gets around a lot of that by having a lot of the tech shit happen "in a box" so to speak, although mods like Create and the like attempt to remedy that by making it "realistic" (and I hate stuff like Create for exactly that reason).

It could potentially provide hundreds of hours of content for people if they ever made one properly, but between the difficulty and the desire to make money NOW instead of design a complete game for 10 years (during which most of it becomes obsolete), I don't see it happening until AI can make most of it for us. I'd play the shit out of one though, that's for sure. Well, unless my only player choices are various shades of brown and lumpy non-binary bodies.

Yes, Travis Deverell is an aussie. Anyone who starts their site with "Thanks, mate" can't be anything else.

I'm getting close to finishing the latest book in Reborn Apocalypse... Need a new series soon.... Here's my tier list: RanknRead

Anyone ever read Goodreads ? I think it's not LitRPG but is highly rated. Also considering Welcome to the Multiverse Audible based on Maximis Velocity Maximis Velocity recommendation even though it's another Travis Baldree book, I enjoy him but why does he always narrate the books I like to read? :D

Link is messed up, but Gideon the Ninth.

Yes, I've read it, I thought it was pretty good, mostly the extremely weird setting - it's like gothic horror sci-fi with the undead running a galactic empire.

Be warned, it's very weird. The second book takes that weird and cranks it up to 11 ( it's from Harrow's point of view, and she is completely fucking batshit ), I did not like it nearly as much as the first book.

Defiance of the fall and primal hunter over Cradle and DCC? And Ripple System is C tier? You are on some major crack mon ami. Based on your tastes, check the nearest garbage can for your next series.

Yeah that ranking is purely based on my preferences, not opinion of quality. I wouldn't try to hard to be elitist though, everyone paying attention realizes the truth of litrpg:

Cradle is finished, and is better than all of those, and it isn't actually litrpg. It is progression fantasy, which isn't much different except there are no game elements at all.

I really enjoy this kind of casual disrespect.

Cradle, The Divine Dungeon, Mother of Leaning and Unorthodox Farming are finished.

I think most of these series, if they finish, will have turned into garbage long before they conclude. So I don't really value whether they have concluded or not.

kaiju battlefield surgeon…some seriously fucked up shit going down. Not even sure I am enjoying it, I can enjoy horror but this is on a weird level it just comfortable. This is probably what people would do if this time of VR existed.
killing each other to cut pieces of your corpse to cut yourself open to feed a parasitic worm in your guts. The coined phrase “consumable” is a mind fuck. Refers to the victims that are used in all the ways imaginable. Dude doesn’t even shy away from throwing in kids into the mix.

So I finished it, terrible pacing and the nearly endless explanations of shit on top of lore dumps made this a do not recommend. Even the ending twist was meh, the horror element at the end was the most interesting part but definitely not worth it.

I'm just finishing Reborn: Apocalypse 4 and this fits it totally, except that I still recommend it for people digging into the mid-tier LitRPG books. This might be my personal preference but the amount of present-time recaps totally kills the tension. So many critical moments of the story read like "And after 30 minutes of the reader's time worth of build-up, the hero opens the door and can't believe the enemy that awaits him. Chapter 43: Looking back on the hard-fought victory where everyone lives, the hero reflected on the battle in detail, enjoy the next 45 minute recap of the battle knowing that everything works out OK."

That, combined with his penchant for doing lore dumps and world-building in the middle of battles makes it tough to read. I enjoy reading long fights and I enjoy reading lore dumps, but it's hard to enjoy mid-battle world building and it's hard to enjoy battles broken up by world building.
