There's currently an anime being released called Hell Mode (latest episode aired yesterday) that has some good bones. This is very much LitRPG The anime itself is childish, but I like where it's going. Anyway, prior to becoming an anime or manga, it was a light novel. I just finished the 4th book, and it's very enjoyable.

Ok time to jump into this thread. Didn't even know it existed. I've been reading LitRPG's for awhile now and I'd love some recommendations however...

Please don't just recommend your favourite and say "You should read this" - Let's try to keep it similar to the ones below.

I read through the entire thread here quickly and I saw a few I might be interesting in checking out like Primal Hunter or He Who Fights with Monsters but a lot of the thread is years old at this point and they might have fallen off so fresh recommendations would be great.

So far I've finished or am up to date on, in order from most to least liked:

Blue Core
Chrysalis
Path of Ascension
Everybody Loves Large Chests
Only Villians Do That
Unbound

currently reading Dungeon Crawler Carl, loving it, just got through the train section.

So, anyone want to hit me with something?

I'm on book 7 of primal Hunter and can't put it down. Will be a struggle to pause the series and switch back to DCC when the next book releases.

There's not much of a common theme with that list, so not sure on similar to the existing ones.

Hmm - the other ones by Blue Core author are pretty good if you haven't checked out Paranoid Mage or Systema Delenda Est, both of those were good and are finished.

Similiar to Chrysalis - Syl maybe ?

Path of Ascension is kind of its own thing, I can't really think of similar stuff.

Everybody Loves Large Chests is one of a kind, and with RR and other sites being bought out by prudish megacorps there will probably never be anything similar in terms of content. In terms of vibe, Macronomicon's work is the closest I'd think. Check out Industrial Strength Magic, or Legend of William Oh.

Only Villains Do That - I am still kinda sad this is on probably permanent hiatus. Similar - hmm Jackal Among Snakes perhaps ? Or if it is the more grimdarkness that appeals, Book of the Dead ? Actually, Demonic Conqueror probably counts, not sure if it's published yet or only serial though.

Unbound - this is pretty much the 'mainstream' litrpg, so stuff like He Who Fights, Primal Hunter, Defiance of the Fall are all pretty similar. Also based on this - Runeblade, Path of the Dragon.

Some others of note that aren't really similar to existing ones you've listed, but are finished, and maintained quality:
- Vainqueuer the Dragon
- The Perfect Run
- The Calamitous Bob
- Mark of the Fool
- Outcast in another world
- Ar'Kendrythist

Some other random recommendations from stuff currently running
- Adamant Blood
- Return of the Runebound Professor
- Rise of the Living Forge
- Nightmare Realm Summoner
- Bog Standard Isekai
- Elydes
- Low Fantasy Occultist

Amazing, thanks for the great list, I'll dig into some of those as soon as I'm done with DCC :)

Defiance of the Fall is another popular one. I fell off at book five or so but the beginning was enjoyable enough. I also fell off Primal hunter in book two but people really like it. I tried a couple others in this genre but don’t even remember what they were. I plan on trying a couple more before giving up on the genre entirely other than Dungeon Crawler Carl.

In the litrpg genre DCC is my #1 and my #2 would be the Ripple System. It is just pure mmo fun. It's not the end of the world it's just friends/guilds playing a virtual mmo. I'm listening through DCC again for the 4th time in prep for the book coming out in May and then I think I'm going to listen to Ripple again. It's just so damn fun.

I'd recommend the Ripple system. It's a squad based litrpg book with a very funny talking axe and straight man MC to make fun of. Good system, lots of humor like Chrysalis and DCC.
