Onto book 11 of Defiance of the fall, some pacing issues throughout the series but so far worth the read. Biggest complaint is main character never fails, dude just continues to fall upward. I get why and that is literally his luck but starting to not feel like their is any danger.
I started reading these recently after seeing your post. Honestly they are pretty fair. I feel like I'm way more into them than the quality justifies. Like 2/3 of the way through book 3 at the moment. Book 3 has been an interesting and needed change and exploration of the world.I'm not the Hero - 4 books in and I'm finding it enjoyable enough with 2 caveats. It's like reading a main storyline for a RPG. I know, that's what these types of books are supposed to be, it really is just the main storyline though with almost no side quests and no secondary points of view, kinda irritating. My other complaint requires spoilers, don't read if you don't want to either get irritated or get spoiled. I'd love an answer to the issue though.
The main character gains an ability that allows him to change a persons class. It's one of the main administrative functions, he tries it out on a friend early on. He surprises the guy by changing him from a baker (or whatever) to a healer. It obviously doesn't allow the person to refuse the change, this is made abundantly clear when he repeatedly asks the person if he really wants it. The guy is happy to see the class change has been done afterwards. Ok, this is the issue. I know he is only the administrator for humans, but why doesn't he just change the class of evil powerful humans to level 1 baker. After buying the ability, using it is was cheap, like 1 AP point. I know, he wants to preserve points, but obviously a cheap ability being used like that would save tons of lives and huge amounts of time. Anyhow, rant off I suppose. I'm looking forward to the next book
