That said, the writing of the ending was rather crap. Don't Joe's forces clear the pass in the course of the movie, if they are chasing after them in the salt flats? Why is not-completely-blocking-it a win condition for Max's forces? Just because the handful of them have high ground once they get there? Why don't Oil Town and Bullet Farm send their reserves in? Etc.

I assume(?) that when the war rig crashed, there was supposed to be some pyrotechnic apocalypse that killed off the rest of Joe's forces, but the CG turned out badly. That's the only reason that makes sense as to why Max and crew aren't killed after the pass.
I think that the quote card from First History Man or whatever at the was kind of a wand to wave to cover the plot holes/problems you may have with the movie. Mine being, this is like 30 years past big nuclear war right? How are people so out of touch with what the world before the fall was like and, if it is longer, how is Max not the age of those grannies who at least remembered TV? Personally, I dont give a fuck, cause the movie was just amazing.

But, with that quote card, I think we can assume that we, the audience, are hearing these tales of the Wasteland from someone further in the future and Max is just our vehicle into them. They may not be real and are probably embellished. Just like real history. Next movie maybe he will consume the Maniacs with fireballs from his eyes, and bolts of lightning from his arse

MadMax 1 was the only story that is not really a telling of the story by someone else. And yes, its kind of odd because the war(s) that destroyed civilization and ate up fuel etc. happened between the end of MadMax 1 and the start of Road Warrior.

Road Warrior is expressly "told by" the feral kid if I do recall, Thunderdome I think is a telling by the older kid he saved from the pig poop gas factory. And most likely Fury Road is told by the wives telling the tale etc. That is how its all kind of set up - only road warrior really I think expressly states this.

one of the articles. I think one linked here even talks about it.
Director confirmed. "no specific timeline" its "stories". originally this WAS going to be Mel. "45 years after next friday" as the timeline, and specifically "After thunderdome". With Hardy being a side character. Without Mel, Hardy became Max. but that did create a continuity problem with his age. so.. "legends".

I liked the movie but in my health it was hard to enjoy it without nitpicking some minor things.
I really think Gastown and maybe even Bullet people should have been left out. We saw 4 other factions as well meaning at least 7 total. We never got close to any of them except granny faction and citadel and even then only learned part of them.
I mean was anyone here really all that partial to Immortan Joe? Other than he was fucked up, limited water and fucked only the best bitches did we know shit about him, or any of his MANY people and ranks for that matter?
Then what about the other 6? Hey here is a colony that does nothing but imitate hedgehogs, and this one crows, oh and this one is back country dirt bike people, oh and this one farms fucking bullets and let's not forget the granny squad and gas people.

Seriously. Good movie though.

Everything in this movie was made of fire.

It is so convenient that all the bad guys happen to be on top of things that are massively flammable.

check back in 5 years...I'll say all those factions can go under the "laying groundwork" header. Remember, we still have 3 movies to go, at least.

3 more movies? had no idea this was part of a new series, i thought it was just a novelty update.

they pretty much have 2 written already due to how long it took to get this one done. Hardy is under contract for 3 (it may actually be 4) more movies. 2 of them are prequels to this movie, but I took that to mean they just happened before it, not that they fed into it. Too late and too tipsy to find the source articles but they are easily found.

Saw this last night and want to say that I agree with all the positive reviews you guys gave. It was pretty awesome.

No crappy romance or family or sappy subplot, just straight up action throughout the movie.

Not many people mentioned him but I thought Nicholas Hoult slid under the radar and gave a really solid performance.
I was rooting for the guy and even though I expected it, was pretty bummed when he was killed off in the end

I've read the supposed feminism angle in this movie and my take on it is that I agree that there were definite feminist elements throughout it. It gave the vibe of being more about Furiosa than Max even though the movie has him in the title. But the tone was also conflicted with the depiction of helpless 'wifes' in fashion magazine type clothing (in a post apocalyptic world no less) that needs saving and one of them being the girl from Transformers (who was cast by Michael Bay as eye porn) so the film is confusingly giving both a strong feminist story narration but visually was going the other way.

But whatever, watch it for the action and not because of any stupid debate about women equality in movies.

9/10

I don't get the feminism rage either. 1 who gives a fuck 2 so what , world needs more feminism anyway

Whoever said they almost left after the first five minutes needs to turn in their geek card.

This movie has nothing to do with feminism. It's justt a good story with good characters. The movie had one romance that made sense and one that didn't happen because it wouldn't have. I'm getting really annoyed that there is a herd of critics now that have to shoehorn some agenda into every review now.

It absolutely has a lot to do with feminism in terms of feminist literary tradition and its accompanying symbolism.

In the modern SJW sense of the term, absolutely nothing to do with that.

I want to know where all the War Boys are coming from. I wonder if Immortan Joe sired most of them with his milking wives or what the deal is. The only other women shown were really old women waiting for the water release. There could've been some middle aged ones, but I didn't notice anyone man or woman under about 55 there.
