If they took the original book, Brothers War, and made that into a three part movie series, it would be fucking amazing. Brothers war is what started it all for Magic. More artifice and less magic, no planeswalkers, with a huge story to draw from. Huge artifact machine battles and such. Not to mention Dragon Engines and Ornithopters. Not to mention the origins of Urza and Mishra.

If you havent read Brothers Wars I suggest you do. Its one of the best Magic books out there.

Jodah's Arc was better. I liked the couple books Jeff Grub wrote for the series.

Oily cheap pizza, like really cheap pizza with onions...probably from high bridge pizza cheap shitty take out, pretty awful pizza. The cards permanently saturated with the smell, the oil having settled into the pours on the surface of the card. Maybe it wasn't even pizza, maybe it was human body sweat from someone who just ate High bridge pizza...uhh this why I played EQ and not Magic.

Not to mention it's like the nerd IP that most nerds even make fun of. I know plenty of hardcore D&D nerds and most of them even look down on Magic players

That is like saying that porn and movies are the same since they can both be filmed in Hollywood and use cameras and actors. You can put stuff like Spirited Away and Dragonball at the top of the list with Scifi/Fantasy movies/books. Hentai and other weird japanese shit can go at the bottom with furries.

I think that average people are more aware of japanese animated movies than weird japanese porn, we are the exception.

I definitely agree that MTG is well above Warhammer and D&D on the dork scale, but I'll also argue that 99% of all anime is completely unwatchable to any healthy, functioning, adult human male. Anime is almost so universally terrible, when it happens to be good, we should just call it something else.

This film will be awful.

I think in terms of general recognition, you split anime in anime movies and anime TV series. In general, most anime movies are high quality non ultra japanese crazy shit(or it's the good kind of crazy like Paprika), you can recommend most movies even stuff other than Ghibli.

The TV stuff though, most of it is garbage, it's either aimed at kids with borderline erotic content to please the 25year old nerds(or well, otakus) or just pure harem style shit, when it's not just erotic content just for the sake of it. And I'm not talking hentai, I'm talking shit that airs on TV as a series yet has no story and boobs and naked little girls in 70% of the scenes. Once in a while there's a good one too but it's not the norm, I'd say there's one good series every season if you have eclectic tastes, and more like 1 out of 2 or 3 seasons if you don't. Out of about 10-12series per season.

As for MTG, think it works out alright in terms of recognition even though you'll get a lot of "oh so this is like pokeman cards". Making a movie though is almost bound to be complete shit. It has a lot of leeway to not be as bad as D&D though, or as bad as anime adaptations(DBZ...). But it'll still be shit.

anime is a medium in which to express a story, sure there are a lot of bad animes, it's no different than american broadcast tv, you can't tell me everyshow on the CW is great, or gems like duck dynasty and big bang theory, there's a lot of shitty american tv, but you'll get gems like GOT, BB. the same goes for anime, every season (winter/fall/summer/spring) we'll have a new thread of the 20-30 newly released anime shows and we'll give our reviews. Usually by the end of the season run there will be maybe at least 1 good series, sometimes we'll get 2 or even 3 rarely. some ppl think of hentai when they think of anime, that's like when you go to turn on the tv you get porntube instead... yea theres not gonna be great plot from that.

for MTG the movie, i'd for them to just take a story of dominara (sp?) or focus on someone like Serra, and then her ascention or "spark" as a planeswalker (a focal character). but i wouldn't want to see a stupid yu-gi oh card game movie or some shit.
