24 years this year. Still in it. I would love to point to X Y or Z that makes it successful but I'd be pontificating because I've never been in another relationship like it; so I can't say for sure. But we get along, we communicate well, and we love each other.

Seems like just about every couple we know is divorced, been with wife since I was a kid so not enough experience outside this relationship to speak to why people have such a hard time of it. You were with Gravy a few decades no? I'm not sure if it's a personality thing that results in LT relationships, dumb luck or what.

Known the wife since Kunark (lol), been dating for 14 years, and married for 12. Its my Bday weekend and her one text to me is "don't let the hoochies at the bar get you too drunk to drive". We have all the same hobbies and interests and would be best friends if not married. I am a lucky bastard. We live fat bastard lifestyles, so who knows how long before one of us keels over, but every year has been a quality one. I could die tomorrow content, honestly.
Most of our friends in LT relationships have crashed and burned if from Cali or stuck it out if from the Midwest. Must be a personality and regional thing. As a german, I take the whole til death do you part thing very seriously. Get in the right circle of people if you want to get back on the horse, or ride the train of dicks and enjoy yourself. Its really your call and I know G wanted you to have a life after him. You won't ever have what you had again, but you might end up with something different that is about as good. There is no point in nailing yourself to the cross in mourning, because no one would want that for you, Gravy least of all.

11 years in, 7 years married here. Cant hold a candle to the 20+s that have already posted but this phrase struck home for me.
I'm convinced this is one factor. I know a lot of serially divorced people who have openly said they stay married til it doesnt "feel right" anymore, as if feelings were a real thing rather than something under our control. My wife and I will not get divorced, its not an option on the table. Knowing that, and knowing that if something goes wrong we have to fix it because this is permanent, is a good thing in my view and something thats not universal among relationships or even among marriages.

Just over 11 years together, so really, compared to you, Mrs. Gravy, I'm still a relationship pup, but what worked for us is our opposing qualities. We don't have a ton in common outside of values, but I'm laid back and non confrontational, and she is take charge and very outgoing. We just compliment each other very well as a team, and we can tell each other anything. Oh and the sex is awesome too, I make her toes curl and she does mine.
