Considering the intentionally limited inventory space you are going to have to be selective about what you loot. 20 years of WoW has programmed us to be the opposite and want to loot everything. With additional things like you're talking about (no drop quest items that cannot be sold) and class specific mats like old research notes or class specific spell reagents it is another layer of game knowledge and interaction.

The discerning player will know that Blue Pixie Dust is a reagent for Wizard spells and thus valuable. The player into leatherworking might just take the quality pelts and leave everything else. I don't see anything wrong with this per se but I would expect them to spend time on making more item icons to more quickly analyze drops. Especially when it comes to mats. Even newb yard snakes can drop 4 items at a time in this at the moment.

I don't really see an issue with it other than that. But seriously did you see the Wizard spell reagent vendor? He sold pages of goddamn reagents for god knows what.

This all sounds nice but the premise of my argument is about corpse decay and keeping a clean camp. You have to loot everything, no matter if you know it’s worth 1cp or not. Even forcing a click with the hopes it makes a player learn the drops, doesn’t guarantee they’re actually gonna look at what they looted in the moment of looting it.

Without a loot all button it’s gonna suck, just like it did in EQ. I see no argument for how this makes gameplay better, more social, or more fun, but I’d absolutely love to hear one that isn’t ‘we’re going for a certain vibe’.

I agree with you 100%

The argument they make is they want you to "think" about what you do and don't want to loot.

Alternative solution is use /hidecorpse looted or have a /hidecorpse all current macro

Yeah that sounds real nice for sure… but the nature of the camp style gameplay that they’re pursuing necessitates looting everything. It’s not like you have a choice, unless you wanna constantly smash a hidecorpse macro. Does not sound like It’s Gonna Rock (tm).

I agree but just make a hidecorpse macro and bind it to a hotkey and you’ll prob get over it pretty quick. It’s literally the first thing I do when I roll up a toon while scribing level 1 spells

"Inventory conflict" can be a meaningful design element when used intentionally. It has the potential to introduce genuine challenge, strategic planning, and resource prioritization for the player. In the right context though - such as in tightly designed, X number of hours single-player RPGs or structured, session-based games like ARPGs, where players might run a few dungeons or maps per night, inventory management can enhance the experience by adding tension and decision-making moments.

However, in the context of MMOs, where the core gameplay loop often revolves around repetitive farming - whether it's grinding mobs or gathering materials for tradeskills - inventory conflict quickly devolves into needless friction. Instead of adding difficulty depth, it becomes yet another layer of tedium dressed up as "challenge." It's not engaging, it's just exhausting.

This isn't an argument for "unlimited" bag space or removing inventory management entirely. But leaning on archaic inventory limitations and poorly designed looting systems, especially those lifted wholesale from 1990s-era design - purely out of nostalgia or "because memberberries", speaks more to a lack of creativity than to thoughtful game development. It's just a lazy design crutch that seems like your programmers don't want to take the time to design a solid looting/inventory system.

Far more eloquent than i put it. Show off.

But I’ll also RP their subreddit and Discord: “maybe this game just isn’t for YOU man”.

This iteration of the game clearly isn't.

But I suspect a massive compromising pivot, once their engagement numbers fall off of the map, after the 30 day "new" game cycle wears off come the paid beta tes..I mean, "Early Access".

Ya, it's tough.

They're also VERY serious about 'big bad' large group size raid content being open world, at least right now.

I'm not sure I have it in me to do that again, especially after experiencing what an absolute joy Quarm's private raid zones are. If there's no hope of me engaging in the top end raid content because I refuse to poopsock on my batphone, I'm not sure how effective any game will be at holding my interests.

I may end up treating this one like Dune, where I play to a certain point and call it good enough.

I think my major problem at this point is that grouping is basically required, and at this point in my life, it's hard to just sit there for a gaming session for hours without interruption. And this game requires you to do that.

It's not 2000 when I can sit at the Raster camp for 14 hours straight to farm an item.

I'm retired so I can do 8+ hours of playing in a day, but it's never uninterrupted.

It’ll really depend on the lore too. EverQuest’s was just so good and so so robust.

Depends on the class you pick as well. 1/3-1/2 of them can solo just fine.

FWIW, in the alpha most of my groups are only 3-4 people and most people leave after like an hour or 2 and I've seen people go afk for 15-20 min at a time because of RL obligations. Most people that play this are very respectful and just pleasant to be around.

It's a complete 180 from the Quaid's, Kirun's, and Kithani's of this thread. Hopefully the WoW crowd stays away from this.

And there it is. Del is a closed alpha cum-guzzler. Reserved for only the most subservient of Discord cucks.

Gotta toe the party line. Lord knows if you have any commentary beyond "omg thank you for making this game you guys have made all my dorkiest dreams come true" you'll be removed from their spaces. The audible SLURP sound from their Reddit and Discord is fucking deafening.

Literally got an invite by sheer luck and responded to Nick when he was giving away 5 at a time, but go off bro. Definitely not a dork spending your Friday and Saturday nights raging about a game you're not even interested in. That social life must be booming.

The fact that you think anyone here is ‘raging’ about this game is deeply indicative of just how fragile the MnM fan community is. This is one of the largest classic era MMORPG discussion communities online, and we’re *gasp* discussing classic era MMORPGS! Oh nooooooo!

No, my social life is not booming. I’m a happily married father of three young children with two businesses to run. Friday nights haven’t meant anything to me in nearly a decade. That’s why I’m back to playing gay elf sims.

What’s your excuse?
