A second spellbook itself is only 1 silver, but I'm not sure how copying spells into it works. I don't play a spellcaster so I don't know if you need to rebuy all of your spells and put them in your new spellbook or if you can copy spells from an old spellbook into a new one.
Yeah that will be the big difference, though would just need corpse recovery spells in the second so either way shouldn't be too bad. Plus will make a ton of cash doing /ooc SoW for donations(insert location here) Rogue however brings a ton of fuck you to the table when it comes to getting around so still on the fence.

I'm looking for doorways that ogres/trolls have to crouch through, stairs gnomes have to jump to climb sometimes and the like.

"Recruiting talented short race rogue"

"Need more ogres for Tunare wall"

All of these things were part of the magic and somehow I see so called devout Everquesters here shouting that down as "stupid"? But show me I'm wrong, please.

I'd say I wish I had all day to think this stuff up but (at least most of?) their devs also have day jobs and are busting their asses to do both. Mad respect.
I remember the Tunare wall. I don't remember short race rogue. Can you elaborate?

Gnome and maybe halfling could see through lots of walls if they got real close and sat, really nice dealing with pathers or on CRs

Now that I mention it, if you shrank other races twice I think they could too

Hmm which concept art? They seem pretty close from what i've seen. Horizontal ears and all.

Nah in game they’re very elfy organic. The early art is far more Dryad and woodsy hybrid. The website shows the kinda typical wood elf design language they’ve chosen to adopt.

They said something about doing a polish pass on wood elves so I don't think the in game model is finished.

Ah cool- I hadn't seen that before. That looks like a super ascetic tree worshipping buddhist angle. Would have railroaded them into weak caster types, or maybe even monk. but yeah that would have been an interesting take. Dude looks like a moth. I wouldn't be surprised if they bring that design back as a mob- it's pretty cool.

This would be a good compromise and make sense "immersively" or whatever

Honestly if they made it possible to be a more "wood" wood elf or the choice of the "hawt" one from EQ, just put em both in rather than throw work in the trash.

I'd take a treebard lookin dude tbh. Already know what most would go with tho.

Watched the most recent stream.

Banks are not linked as of now, and it doesn’t sound like they intend them to be.

In a round-about way, without adequate preparation, this also adds to potential death penalty.

A lot of people expecting a ‘spiritual successor’ to classic era EQ are in for a real surprise if these decisions all make it in.

The increases in zone size, death penalty, and night danger are going to have enormous impacts on how the world feels. There will be a much much greater focus on survival and preparation elements, and it will shrink the world the player engages with significantly. EQ never really felt like that to me. If someone forgot something it wasn’t a total catastrophe that resulted in my gameplay being disrupted for 30 minutes. I never felt like i had to stay close to my preferred city/hub. If i was soloing in Overthere and got a /tell to join a SolB group, i simply ran to Skyfire and got a port. Now I’m going to have to first travel to a specific bank to grab who knows what I’ll need for a potential corpse run.

These all sound like intentional strategies at this point, but i really haven’t heard much design philosophy behind the decisions. If i were to guess it’s about content consumption rate and player interaction.

But yeah, this game is going to be a lot more about survival elements and preparation for adventuring than any classic EQ players are used to. We’ll see where it all shakes out.

I love playing classic EQ to this day, and as such I was hoping to be the target market for this game, but i just don’t think I am. I really only have 3-4 hours a few nights a week these days, after the kids go to bed and my obligations are satisfied. I have zero desire to devote 25%+ of a given play session to traversal, preparation or survival elements.

Funny enough, this game may be positioned for much younger or much older men, or ones who have 25+ hours per week to devote to it.

*EDIT* I just realized maybe he meant banks are not linked between characters, rather than cities. He didn't specify and I may have misunderstood. I'd have to rewatch, but I probably won't. Either option sucks, one just sucks more.

I can get behind all of that to some degree as long as your knowledge and preparation can be rewarded in some way. Having your expedition pack mule with potions and whatever on it rewards your forward thinking. Without punishing you for not having your backup backup items in bank of a city you almost never go to.

I keep hearing this pack mule stuff, but i don't get it.

So let’s say I’m a Shaman. I’m on my pack mule like a good boy, with my backup spell book in his saddle bags. I get a dungeon group after 30 mins LFG and giddy up for a 20 min traversal. I park my mule outside the dungeon, secure in knowing i have my backup gear and spells for a corpse retrieval.

We fucking wipe immediately.

I spawn in the city but my spell book is on my pack mule. I had to run through a high level traversal zone to get there - and it’s night and i didn’t take infravision trait (think Emerald Jungle -> City of Mist). Do i have ANOTHER spell book in my bank? I have to go there anyway for a corpse run torch, right?

I am now 1.5 hours into my play session. Am i missing something?

I dunno. Whatever i guess.

I haven't played this much so bear with me. Players (and not just casters) can bind anywhere now right?

I don't think there is necessarily anything wrong with creating a new EQ. Especially since there is now an entirely new generation of 20 year olds to appeal to.

The problem is, SO much has changed about gaming, the internet, culture, etc. that I don't believe the same type of gameplay mechanics that were popular 25+ years ago are going to fly today. As a newfound Boomer, I understand that the game won't be for me - I just don't have the time anymore. But even for an 18 year old, I don't know that enough of them are willing to engage in 1999 game design philosophy for this to be successful.

And I think "indie" projects like Pantheon, Ember's Adrift, etc. kinda prove that point. There aren't enough 45 year old has beens living off the government or 20 year old Gen Zers to keep these things afloat for long.
