All the complaining about not having a map, when you learn the cities layout by playing for like 4 hours and doing the noob quests that lead you around. WOW, you learn the game world by playing — a novel idea for an RPG in 2025.

So full of horse shit. Your ass didnt learn a single EQ zone ‘by playing’ in the day. You were on eqmaps.com printing shit out like every other grandpa here.

I think there's a framework for a "cartography" skill in-game, but I'm not sure what the plans are for it. Personally, I'm neutral on whether or not to include maps inside the game. There are obvious benefits to including them, but I think it's also worth mentioning that not having access to a map got me to play the game differently than most MMOs. I spent my time exploring areas of the city that I probably would never go into because I wouldn't expect there to be any "content" there.

...now, Night Harbor is currently so empty that there really isn't much "content" in those areas anyways, but if I think of it from the perspective of what the city would look like when finished, I could see that type of exploration being rewarding.

15-16 years old hugging walls and following roads to find shit. Learned most outdoor zones quickly but fuck the cities, never could navigate any of them well no matter how much time I spent.

We explored all kinds of places in M&M without there being maps or given direction too. One of the devs followed us around and watched us do it.

I don’t care. You’re lying about EQ.

You did not get to Sebilis, or Chardock, or Western Wastes for the first time without a map. Unless of course you were the absolute donkey making self sufficient guildies lead you around by the nose. And even if you were, they were using a map to do it.

It's very interesting that I learned the game world of Elden Ring like the back of my hand and yet...it had a map.

There's a way to do a map without leading the player around by the fucking nose. But that takes good designers and not just relying on "memberberries" at all times to sell your product.

As an open pk guild on RZ we leveled at many strange places that are even empty on p99

There was no guide telling us to camp odd NPCs, we literally found them ourselves and to your point shared them within the guild

Is there a way to put the abilities bar horizontal? It seems retarded that it's basically like the EQ1 spellbook, but all your default shit is on a vertical bar. Super annoying to look at.

The entire world was mapped within weeks of release.

Just stop.

We would routinely find NPCs to try to kill and have to flee from before we'd find one that worked. There was no guide for this or anything in comments on Everlore etc. Ask any Darkenbane members from RZ of that era.

City Maps literally came in the box with the game sir

12 year old me perused them quite a bit dropping turds on the throne

People still got lost even with the maps which I found amusing. A stark lesson is in there somewhere about how you can't dumb it down enough and still have a game if you try to.

South Karana treants was one of our spots we held for a while without getting discovered. The millers in WK were lesser known for a while until those got discovered. EK had some mobs. We'd also camp Cindreela as a solo wizard nailing her during her pet summon, that got discovered later too.

There's some others in cities not coming to mind right now, felwithe maybe.

Id be very surprised to see people on p99 doing these even today.

Even I know that one. Come on. Those treants respawned in 30 seconds because they were gay ass druid quest NPCs and like level 30. You generally had to be an evil race class to do this though because of the faction hit.
