Anyone doing Blacksmith, be aware, you cant realy make armor past copper, unless you get ahold of leather from the aproprate tiered mobs. Bronze is like ~level 15 mobs and iron is ~level 25 I think. On the other hand, weapons aren't too hard to make in terms of mats, they just require alchemy levels.

Jewelcrafting is pretty simple to level with copper/bronze/iron/steel bars only though. Getting the enchanting tradeskill container requires you to make an enchanter alt and follow outlaw path, or give 2s to an outlaw enchanter to buy one for you.
What does the enchanting container even do?

Turns regular bars of metal into enchanted bars of metal for JC combines. It doesn't need any other mats than 1 bar of metal and it has standard fail rate for tradeskills.

You can break into the Enchanter's guild as a non-Enchanter to buy the book and train the skill, too. It does require some parkour.
I looked around for some way into the tower as a non-enchanter and couldn't see any ledge high enough to get into a window. I figured the palace was NYI, so climbing up there was imposable.

Been enjoying it so far. It definitely has figured out how to get people in parties to talk to each other. Which is honestly something I haven't seen since EQ, over tons of MMOs.

And that community aspect is what made EQ work.

Still not sure if I'm willing to pay a monthly sub for an EA game though.

If it was a shitty company selling you a beta to test for them, I kinda understand.

But this is developed in the spare time by people who have a passion to deliver something targeted at us.

I see it as an investment rewarding passion.

yeah actually communicating with folks in the world actually pays dividends. Even if it's as simple as " hey got room for one" in this camp. Plus ooc is quite active

I mean, I get that. But playing this and it definitely feels like an alpha. For instance, the main city is 90% empty buildings. Are they going to fill them up over the next 6 months before EA? I doubt it, cause that seems like a massive waste of time.

If you're going to make me run through a fucking gigantic city at 2mph, at least fill out the city. When I'm just running past empty buildings I'm wondering why the fuck you had to make the zone so gigantic.

I wish I could speak to the other zones on whether they're in a complete state. I hope there are enough people testing this for them all the way to 60. Is there a closed testing environment with people outside the developers playing between the tests?

closed alpha server is up 24/7, only down when open alpha servers are open

It's cool that the game looks like it has potential, but there is a lot in this that is very, very far from being "complete". And there are a lot of archaic design decisions they're going to have to eventually compromise on if they want this thing to have lasting, commercial success.

I'll definitely check in on its progress but there's no way this feels like much more than a beta come January 2026.

Are these servers going to remain up? This is the longest they have run
no they have the dates posted for the next two or three 5 day open alphas. Characters will remain through those atleast (im guessing they wipe when it turns into beta that is just speculation though)

It's maybe something like 40% of the buildings are empty, and half of those are for player housing.

There's a closed alpha going on right now. Usually around 130 players on at peak hours when I do a /who all.

So I spent half the day now trying to raise alchemy, so I can make the flux, that's needed to make steel weapons. Herbs really fucking suck. Makes me feel like I got lucky figuring out the copper hotspot and reading about Glass Flats early, for tin. Still, the ore nodes I can see half way across the map, while I can trip over some of these damned herbs and not even see them.

Drop rate for the spellblade pages is ROUGH. Maybe tomorrow. Not sure about the changes to that class so far. I appreciate that just being proc monkeys was probably not ideal, tho amusing. But now they're shitty proc monkeys with an occasional insta cast nuke. Oh well. They should put like a 200% multi for the nuke or something considering the time it takes to get to 5 stacks, and the general lameness of a nuke 2? tiers down.

So I'm watching the video linked below last night kinda while doing other things, and someone asks a question about having a 'Loot All' option. Nick's response was immediate and definitively 'no'. I'm not gonna watch this whole thing to get the exact words, but man he had no real justification for it other than 'we're making a certain type of game with a certain type of feel'.

Funny enough, I was in a Velketor's Lab frenzy group earlier that day for like 4 hours. We're killing fucking hundreds of these spiders. They drop stackable silks, as well as a stackable no drop item for what may be the Coldain shawl quest... can't remember. ANYWAY some of these fucking things would drop 3 silks, a block of velium, and 4 of these no drop items. Some spiders took FIFTEEN mouse clicks to complete looting. It was an absolute chore and unfortunately it was me (the druid lmao) on loot duty. If we wanted camp clean I was mostly pulled out of combat, and pulled out of socializing every few minutes.

This Nick person really provides no philosophical reason for exclusion of a Loot All button, and that's been extremely common when the team talks about some of these systems. Everyone just seems fine with it. Like exclusion of a Loot All button is so obvious to the soul of the game it barely even deserves conversation... Why?

Considering the intentionally limited inventory space you are going to have to be selective about what you loot. 20 years of WoW has programmed us to be the opposite and want to loot everything. With additional things like you're talking about (no drop quest items that cannot be sold) and class specific mats like old research notes or class specific spell reagents it is another layer of game knowledge and interaction.

The discerning player will know that Blue Pixie Dust is a reagent for Wizard spells and thus valuable. The player into leatherworking might just take the quality pelts and leave everything else. I don't see anything wrong with this per se but I would expect them to spend time on making more item icons to more quickly analyze drops. Especially when it comes to mats. Even newb yard snakes can drop 4 items at a time in this at the moment.

I don't really see an issue with it other than that. But seriously did you see the Wizard spell reagent vendor? He sold pages of goddamn reagents for god knows what.
