I would give them the full benefit of the doubt that those low play time accounts are bank alts. Which means they have about ~3.5-4k players and nearly all of them use bank alts. The alternative, of course, is that over 50% of the potential player base noped the fuck out immediately, which would be very, very bad.

Given that its a free to play test, designed for retiree/disability types, who have fixed incomes and have plenty of free to play options in similar vein amongst emulator/private servers, and they refuse to launch on steam and wont have any marketing budget, they'll be lucky to convert 10% of them to paying customers. So maybe 300-500 subscribers total for launch.

maybe they'll catch a few whales who will 54 box that will prop up the numbers a bit but still not looking likely that this will ever be full time employment for anyone.

This game isn’t meant to take your full attention. I got a window with stuff partly showing so I can see when to heal. Otherwise I’m working or playing some other game or watching tv or whatever else. It’s a great chill experience. Reminds me of eq when I used to literally study for hours while xp’ing

12k on servers seems a bit high.

if shawn reads this, reach out if you want, i can offer a primary and colo datacenter services for server hosting. not sure what you do, but those costs look like by compute and or egress. a lot of smaller private cloud data centers will just do flat costs and i imagine your servers dont need incredible resources. maybe you're doing baremetal though.

nm im retarded, 12k for 4 year range makes sense

Easier to play for 8-10 hours if you aren’t going sweaty boy the whole time. I literally get told on comms when someone needs a heal and then tab over and then I’m back to poe2. It’s like ever 2-3 pulls unless a named comes or whatever. We aren’t pulling 5 mobs at a time or any such nonsense

It's almost like you're describing an idle game that wants you to pay a $15 month sub for.

It’s looking like it’s taking people in the 35-45 level range 5-6h per level. Leveling to 60 is going to take people who play 12-15 hours per week many many months. Probably a year.

The last playtest they had almost 2000 accounts play 3.5-8+ hours PER DAY. A full 10% of the unique accounts that logged in at all played 8 hours every day, and another 15% played 3.5-7 hours every day. Safe to say those will all be guaranteed subs.

What’s really fucked up? Outside the first day concurrent users hovered around 1100-1200. This group of players is dominating usage, and the group of people NOT playing a fucking shitload is vanishingly small. This team is kinda pot-committed to keeping a very rabid base very satisfied, for better or worse.

I looked at this a long time ago, and look forward to it coming out. But i'm not gonna play it now and ruin that first time experience. You only get one of those.

It's more like 3~4 hours per level if you're just purely grinding. Faster than old school EQ. I remember leveling my warrior in Guk and it taking 6-8 hours per level. However, I haven't hit the 50s yet, which I've heard are pretty slow. But yeah, expect the leveling experience to take quite a while if you're a dad gamer.

We're not that hard to please. Tbh they probably could get rid of corpse runs, shrink the zones, and put in maps... and we'd still want to play it.

There’s no such thing as ‘just purely grinding’. Travel, CRs, LFG, and selling may vary by player, but every player experiences them.

If low 40s took you 8 hours of pure grinding per level in Guk, again, you were garbage at EQ. There were single play sessions where I’d grind out an entire level at Frenzy, and i wasn’t playing anywhere near 8h in a row. Maybe you were alt-tabbed playing Commander Keen as well? The only way i could see this is if you were on a very high pop server and Guk was so packed there was significant spawn competition… which did happen.

You're just garbage at remembering and think that your time on TLP's and emulators is indicative of the EQ experience from 26 years ago.

I was likely killing AoW while you were still doing your first Nagafen raid.

I honestly have no idea how long levels took back then but no way was it that quick. A bunch of us marathoned our 2 buddies characters to 50 (they were the 3rd and 4th level 50s on the server, beaten by another duo, by less than 1 hour) and it took fucking weeks (iirc almost 2 weeks) with 4 guys rotating sleeping/grinding 24/7, i literally only participated 1 day when I went over to see wtf they were doing and why they hadn't wanted to hangout and play D&D. They had both been beta testers and knew exactly where to go/ideal path to level, though one of them still went ogre and had a huge exp penalty, but the next lvl 50 after him was like a week later so it wasn't even close.

its how i even learned what everquest was and picked up the game a week or so later, then I learned I had to get a 2nd phone line installed. my path to 50 took considerably longer since I played a rogue and spent probably 75% of my time online LFG.
