There's things in here to read? it's just pissing and moaning when I don't post

Also to cotinue with evidence

this is funny because all of the icons were copy/paste eq icons before the reworks

I still believe Nick's firing had more to do with not getting enough work done, rather than over "copying EQ".

Love the guy, but at the pace Nick was working it was clear to everyone that EA was several years away rather than what might be a year or two.

"Put some guys working with Nick to finish the classes" isn't a valid suggestion when he was more focused on finishing draft beers. I believe copying EQ was a secondary reason, and likely something that had been brought up during meetings. But ultimately "copying EQ" doesn't matter because work on the classes had completely stalled out for 2 months (some people from early alpha would say things were stalled for 2 years). They had plenty of grounds to let Nick go from class design outside of "he's copying EQ".

Lol he still lives. React spotted!

FWIW it always seems like he had a bunch of ideas but was pretty much either hamstrung with tech and art not existing and having to piece together unique playstyles from a super limited pallete of existing spells and what little could be strung together with database shenanigans. Not to mention whatever pushback was going on from the back office committees. EG the pretty extreme initial racial stats from him and then getting what we ended up with.

Still miss his M&M streams tho.

Where is Rothold and what level range? Is it a mini dungeon or more like bt bay?
Not sure how to compare it, but it's bigger than anything I've seen so far judging by what Shawn showed on stream. It's somewhere in the deep, but since the connecting zones won't be in yet, there will be an npc that teleports you there for the time being. The level range is 30-45 or so.

On a "small team" you can't be an idea guy without having the means to pull off your ideas.

He was / is a "Founding Investor" right? So he was, more than likely, in that back office discussion as well.

The follow-up remains, why didn't they keep him on as a Marketing person / CM? His streams always drew an audience, he was / is very personable. I always saw him as a more relaxed version of Stephan Frost (Wildstar):

I dunno what behind the scenes drama went on but having him not doing promo and Q&A for the team while the rest of the team works is a loss overall. Hell, without knowing his technical skill, they could have had him be the "Compile the notes and field the Q&A guy" at least, til it became a bigger thing.

Just to put this narrative to bed about them being worried about getting sued, this is what Shawn had to say about class changes.

Nah, it had nothing to do with discussions related to IP or anything of a similar legal vein. The class changes have been based on:
  • our desire to see greater differentiation between classes/more class identity
  • feedback from the team that wasn't initially incorporated
  • discussions within the systems team related to longer-term progression and sustainability
  • a lack of completeness for various classes prior to these efforts
  • a fair amount of feedback from people who weren't happy with the previous version of the classes
Some people weren't happy with classes previously. Some people aren't happy with the classes now. Some people won't be happy with the classes in the future.

i'm eager to see the new inquisitor. hopefully they read over various suggestions and feedback and then picked the way they want to go, and do it well.

Love You GIF by Sky

As I said, cope for the “omg daybreak!!!”

Glad to hear they put SK revamp from one of the first revealed to last to “happen” because its super fake and gay.

Piddleing with a pally… inquisitor or spellblade may be interesting. Pally is… well a pally.

Let's say someone never really played eq seriously, and what they did play they largely forget.

If someone wanted to be a strong soloer but also do well in a group and be useful... What classes would you recommend from the various disciplines?

I was thinking necro, druid, bard, sk maybe. I'm not a mouth breather so I don't mind a difficult class to play. I mean... Someone doesn't mind.

Knowing what you play in other games, and the fact you want at least the ability to solo - Shadowknight. But I cant sit here and say you should play that in Early Access because we just dont know how much they'll change the SK. It could be a nothing-burger kind of change like most people are saying, or it could just be some minor tweaks.

There are other options, but just going based off what you're voicing your opinion on wanting to play. Necro is an "ok" option in my book - but in this current iteration of the game and when I played alpha, once in group theyre fighting red cons and there spells dont land for shit. At least thats how it is pre-30.

Thanks man. I have considered SK because I always tank. It's my leading option haha

This economy is… interesting, money seems really low - or are the high ends just not engaging with the trade community?

Harsh at the start eking out copper

Its very rough at the start and its understandable in the design, imo. When you first start playing I think theyre trying to get you to explore, or force you to, rather - to find all the avenues you can to make money and/or get gear. I intentionally didnt want to ask anyone in the guild for hand me downs because I didnt want to be a burden on anyone in the guild or feel needy. So I mined copper, picked herbs, etc. and made my gear and buffed myself with potions. That barely cost me anything in game, but time financially in game. Only bought spells that I absolutely needed, not fucking True North (sense heading is free, just push the fkn button).

Starting around 18 - I got to the point I was able to pay for every spell I was missing (2 lvls into the spell gap). At 20 I was able to buy all spells as soon as I got the level but still went broke. Afterwards, I started to have a surplus and I can see it got better as time went. You start to be forced into killing mobs that pay you enough to afford everything and you're not longer killing things like Crocs that are just dropping fish bones and shit that is ultimately useless (outside of some one off cooking recipes).

Hard to judge as you have a lot of folks in and out over the course of closed beta. I made a ton of money during the 2-3 months I was most active and never leveled a toon above 30. But I have knack for that so your milage may vary.

Arc has a good toolkit for soloing too. They will make decent pullers and dps in groups as well.
