Not sure, it’s a passive currently. I did hear the same somewhere though.

I certainly hope they switch it to active.

Like 70% of players are gonna pick an Ultravision race given how dark this game is, so that means 70% of the screenshots and gameplay videos are gonna have a stupid ass blurred draw distance.

That is going to have a massive impact on player population.

I'd consider removing the entire vision system rather than implement it this way.

I watched a bit and what he said is they set up a way to break night harbor into two sections when certain population thresholds are met, and then demonstrated that ooc is connected in both zones. Looked like the break was around Saltbreeze park area but I wasn’t watching when he actually zoned from one to the other.
I actually like this. NH lags so much especially if you have a pet

We found a place where we needed our trainee candles to see in the deep elf starter area. A cave up on a ledge surrounding the area, has some level 4-5 myconids. No apparent light source, was total darkness and had to use the candle even with ultra. Curious what the “unnaturally dark” areas like Upper Saman look like with ultra.

Going to start a fresh deep elf today and try to get him to underdocks to kill wererats and bandits, see how long it takes to not be KOS in NH.

Lack of night and day cycle and lack of sandstorms and rain really stands out in the deep. Put your fire wherever ya want, no need for shelter!

IMO, in “typical high fantasy” vision aspects in relation to this… ultra / heat vision is like “infrared” so it has a kinda excuse to not “work” in “absolutely no light” - but even then any small “fire” should then result in essentially full vision.

Ultravision is completely magical vision and should never “not see”… unless its some cave of mushrooms or something.

Not having reasons for things is worse than having retarded reasons.

Yeah, it's almost like, "Hey guys! REMEMBER 1999!?!" is a really retarded reason to add these dumb, outdated systems in a modern-day MMO.

Finally giving the beta a bit more time now that most of the updates for classes are in and the ultravision races. Got my monk to 50 a couple months ago and just kind of backed off because I didn’t really see the point at the time.
Excited to see some of the old minivan dad crew planning on this game.

I only skimmed the past few pages. But did I catch this right? If you are a Dark Elf with Ultravision you can't see shit in direct sunlight? Because gyat damn that would be fucking lol.

If you have Ultravision you need to wear sunglasses or be blind outside during the day. Think of the immersion!

Designing classes is way harder than creating worlds for these guys. The new deep areas are pretty damn cool. The ‘inaccessible’ part of the deep elf city actually has some wild shit in it lol. And caves of irem is full of shit to figure out, giant puzzles and stuff. Caverns is barely started yet but shows a lot of promise as well.

too bad they keep shooting themselves in the foot with their class and mechanics changes. Such a cool world and it’s going to sit empty at this rate.

No not at all. Anyone saying that is grossly overexaggerating. I ran a deep gnome outside to take a look for myself. With gamma at 50% this is what daytime looks like.

Nah dog this is pussy shit. Everything should be completely blurry for Ultravision races unless they have sunglasses.
Because in like real life man, after you get your eyes dialated you gatta wear those disposable grandma sunglasses--- there will be various levels of sunglasses, blueblockers will drop off raid mobs only, basic dollar store sunglasses not till about level 35

So I made a Deep Gnome and ran around a bit, got to level 3-4 and went to NH. I think they’ve really designed themselves into a bit of a corner here tbh

- 30-50% (?) of their planned content will be in “The Deep” so they will really have to offer some better solution to darkness such as Ultravision, I made a toon without Ultravision just to test it and that would just be stupid gameplay.
- If they don’t come up with some massive drawback to Ultravision then it will clearly be such a superior choice that I think it would be recommended 100% to take it to the exclusion of the other races. We’re not talking about Human/Barb in EQ here the difference in gameplay is just retarded
- If they do come up with some massive Ultravision drawback, how do you solve it without fucking up #1 OR making it a huge pain in the dick to play the other 50-70% of topside content for Deep races?

I guess they could go the Iksar route and make it a superior choice but have massive faction downsides, people are saying Deep Elf might take 30+ hours of killing Ashira to enter Night Hold… but then they’d have to change their lore and make Deep Gnomes “evil” too IMO

If anyone planned to quit until EA it is probably worth at least checking out the new races. I had zero interest in Deep Elf/Deep Gnomes, think they’re kinda lame tbh but if I end up playing EA there is zero chance I roll anything without Ultravision if it stays as is

I was laughign, my static was talking about the DE area and laughing that it has more fleshed out lore than the rest of the game.

you have a clear story, you have a clear direction...you basically have the "Who, What, Why" of story telling conveyed pretty simply.

---

On the changes side, they need to fuckin decide what they want from shaman. That class is a bipolar mess.

I feel like they are shitting the bed on the class because they are balancing it based on "Do nothing" healers that basically cast 1-2 heals and then sit without doing a slow, without dotting without anything else...because if you did those things...like you are supposed to...you are never "Full Mana" for long.

The secondary issue they are running into is, how do you balance a class that heals AND dps'? They are hitting this wall on druid too, just not as hard because the mental math is much easier.
