INQ is one of the three I leveled up on the box server. They're "okay" - but as
...
points out, they have completely trash DPS. The tank isnt supposed to be a pure DPS sure - but, no, Im serious - their DPS is a dumpster fire compared to Fighter or SK. Their mez is helpful, sure - but you'll want your Enchanter to overwrite it as soon as they can. To get rid of a damage shield, they have to do one of their Distress line spells on the mob before so purifying strike will guarantee that it strips a "random" buff from your target. So its worth having a Purge up on top of that if you're dealing with DS's often if purifying blow isnt getting it. None of their spells are meant to be "spam" spells. A lot of people play them with the low level absorb and the low level distress because the mana regen on an INQ is horrible. But.. you learn in the higher levels that you only spam your two innate abilities. But that points out the other issue with the class - its aggro is pretty bad. You can still hold aggro, sure. But you end up having to taunt the primary mob at least once during every fight. I was running three boxes and my static was running three boxes. Starting to get real bad in the 40's - the Wizard and the Spellblade were constantly pulling off my INQ. You use a shield and your damage is even worse - the shield adds fuck all to your survivability. So its basically a 2 hander for most of the game. Your wards become really powerful, but.. mobs can interrupt the casting of your Ward. So the one thing you're trying to use to increase your survivability is complete garbage in that one situation unless you "regain concentration."
But.. its not all doom and gloom. The INQ's innate 1 minute charm is basically a "break camp for free" spell. Charm something, send it in - Fascinate all the mobs in there with the inq mezzing right behind the enchanter - letting the charm mob die in the process. They do have kick/Reflecting Bash (w/shield). They do have silence. They do have AOE silence with a long CD. They can all but lock a caster mob down, and if theyre the only one interrupting - they have an absorb for spells that do get through. That is - if they arent mezzable - which INQ mez is a quick cast almost - so you can interrupt them with the mez if you need to. When I do use a shield and I use reflecting bash at the higher level, I basically take 1/5 of the mobs HP away instantly if theyre getting ready to cast some big spell (mana spent = damage). The "pillage mana" line is fun to use and you get to see everyones mana "tick up" when it is cast. But its got a long ass CD - so you end up catching yourself mezzing a caster off on the side - pillage mana them - then switch back to the melee mob until they have no mana. ... At my INQ's level - the only thing that I am truly scared of is "Fear" itself. Even if I break free - by the time I do, theyre already casting another spell thats going to chunk me for 1/3 of my HP if I dont have Silence up (its an instant ranged spell. That is, if the mob can even be Silenced or Mezzed - which is basically them resisting that shit which shouldnt fucking be a thing.
My "hope" is that they eventually get a buff and become the new "hotness" - but as it sits right now - the other tanks are getting more love because so many people play them. With the INQ feeling like some red headed step child that they occasionally throw a bone to.
ANYWAYS - I was just asking because sometimes I just want to take a break from the "grind" and want to play a single character. Figures its tanks and theyre literally hard as fuck to gear up on a fresh server. Basically a solo self found character in the early levels at best. The Paladin, as was mentioned before - would have been WAY more useful in my static. There is no telling how much time, and EXP, a Rez from a Paladin OR a Cleric, would have saved us.
