That is idiotic. As if DC didn"t already have many gay characters.

Taking an established character and going, you gay now, is insanely insulting.

also, Fire is bi. Ice is not.

What they"re really saying is that the writing staff is so shit at their job that they have to promote a gimmick to sell comics. Lazy marketing, a terrible idea, and it"s discriminatory.

If you"re going to change a character"s sexual orientation just do it. Don"t hype it up and try to score points for being "hip" and "with it". That"s insulting.

Alan Scott has a wife and daughter. Are they getting retconned or are they going to explain the concept of a "beard"?
It"s in Earth 2, where he"s much younger and doesn"t have a kid... I think

to make it even more ridiculous and confusing.

Remember they rebooted the universe. so EVERY character already was completely remade. Many pretty much only sharing a name in relation to their old character. people like The Question, Madama Xanadu, are pretty much new characters that just stole the names of old ones.

So, the regular world is already an elseworld or alternate reality from the old world.
but thats not enough, a number of characters do not live in this regular world. They live in an alternate alternate reality.
Earth 2.
In Earth 2, apokalips invaded. Batman, WW, and supes died in the fight to kick them off Earth.
Supergirl and Batgirl, fell into "our" Earth, the regular reality. Powergirl and Huntress here.

So yeah, this Alan Scott is younger, doesn"t have a family etc.

But still, fucking stupid. so insulting.
Only thing worse, would have been in he caught the gay from Ero"s love guns.

like, its almost funny how you can make a comparison to Batwoman.

Batwoman as a lesbian is a fairly new thing. But Batwoman as a character is old.
But, that is just the Batwoman title. Kate Kain who dons the identity IS new. Kathy Kain was the original Batwoman. Very similar of course. But they took the steps to create an actual new character, and built a life, character, and origin that included her sexuality.

Honestly, this worked because of the quality of the comic. You can get away with almost anything with good enough writing and art. They really went all in with the awesome and unique look on her book especially.

That said: Earth 2, what a fucking cop out. And making it a Lantern, really any Lantern, is a double cop out. They can always relegate any Green Lantern to tertiary character with relatively little effort. Personally I was pulling for a gay Uncle Sam, because that shit would have been hilarious.

Its a reaction to the gay marriage proposal by northstar in the marvel universe. Northstar has been outed as gay years ago, and nothing needed to be retconned. Marvel announced it big a month or so ago, that someone was gonna pop the question, that ended up being northstar. So dc finally woke up and said, OMG we need a gay character too! Ok who do we pick! Quick guys pull a name out of a hat for crying out loud! Alan Scott? Sure we can do that, thecwife and kid thing never happened!!

Imo dick grayson would have been the more obvious choice.

I remember as a kid loving some of the items they called out. That Bloodshot and Shaft "jumping for no reason" was awesome at the time, as someone who loved crossovers.

Used to love some of those books, they"re painful to go back and read now. It"s strange to see stuff like Bloodstrike and Prophet have new issues now.

Unrelated, AvX giving me an Infinity Crusade kind of vibe. Not sure what to think after the last issue except for wondering how they"re going to undo it all when they"re done.
