Your weekend sounds like it really sucked. I remember that happening from time to time. I only played MTG at pre releases and release events because I enjoy sealed and drafts more than anything else and am very good at sealed and used to win flight after flight back in the days when you'd have 100-200 people at one venue. I'd check every day for spoilers and leading up to the pre release was really exciting and I looked forward to it so much, as I was working 80 hours and in school etc. so it was like the only fun I got to have once every 3 months. And then you have that rare shitty one that just blows. Sorry to hear it :/ At least there's still the release event?

I hear you. I played two events on Saturday. First time I picked Temur hoping to pull a Surrak promo, but was happy to getRattleclaw Mystic. Pulled another Rattleclaw and two xEmbodiment of Springas well as being lucky with my land base, though no fetches. But the workhorse was the common 4/2 bear. The +6/+6 instant was massive for me and won a few games and 2 xScaldkindid very well for me.

Second event I picked Azban and had terrible packs and an awful land base, but was happy to seeHerald of Anafenzaas my promo and pulled someAbzan Falconers andAinok Bond-kins. Was only missingHigh Sentinels of Arashinto top them off.(Got Temur Ascendance as rare in two of my boosters having not had one when playing Temur ><) I was creating a few tokens then morphingMaster of Pearlsto give them all +2/+2 and if needed the next round using the +2/+1 lifelink spell.


Soldier / token / +1/+1 decks are going to be a lot of fun in Khans with stupid amounts of synergy. Might be worth picking up a fewPreeminent Captains if you haven't already. It's nice that it bringsAnafenza the Foremostinto play without needing black or green mana down. Sorin has been really underestimated by a lot of people as well - it's price has doubled to make it the most expensive card in the set in the last couple of days.

Absolutely. Some of the talk here about Sorin is absurd. Nobody is properly valuing the fact that the Lifelink lasts thru your opponent's turn. He's actually really good and synergies well with the new meta. He's just a different type of play style people are used to so they are writing him off. SCG and Coolstuffinc are sold out because I wager they want to wait and see how he shapes out in the next couple weeks and he'll probably sell for much more than he is now.

I knew the set was popular (My LFGS who usually orders a bunch extra of the pre-release boxes) was sold out and had to turn people away for the Sunday 2HG. I bet Hasbro is dancing all the way to the bank.

There aren't any restrictions on the amount of the set they can print so it's not like they won't be able to eventually meet demand.

Worldwake was still in demand after multiple printings when they said "we're not printing anymore."

So they do have some kind of internal "Stop printing at X Runs to maintain collectible value" guideline.

Worldwake was a set that was warped by Jace the Mind Sculptor and his bonkers aftermarket value. People would have probably been willing to crack cases open in search of him while tanking the value of every single other card in that set. Even if profitable in the short term for Hasbro it would have been unhealthy behavior to encourage.

What I was trying to get across was that unlike other products there isn't any mandatory cutoff point. There isn't artificial scarcity built into normal sets. They can print as much as they choose to print.

How relevant is the lasting lifelink if you are putting him into an offensive strategy though? I guess if you are on some sort of vigilance thing with Brimaz+tokens you'll still have some blockers back. Maybe there is a control sort of strategy where you try and get him to an ultimate so you can shut off creatures as a threat entirely.

A lot of people are planning to crack packs just for fetches. I'm waiting patiently for them to crater the price of everything else in the set while they try. The only packs I plan to open are whatever boxes come my way for judging events.

I preordered a few things last week that I really liked such as Villainous Wealth (less than a buck each) and End Hostilities (1.25 each) because I thought hoping for better prices was silly but other than that I'm on the same plan. A whole bunch of the set that want to pick up is on a rocket ride to 25 cents. I'll draft once a week at the FNM and wait for deals to come my way.

I had a great Pre-release weekend. I don't really play anymore so was just hoping to break even and sell any good rares/packs I got to buddies who still play. Picked Abzan and was able to go 3-1 (gave win to friend I played final round so we could split 12 packs and get out early as it was Midnight pre-release).

But the packs could have had more fetches! Also, to be on the safe side you should probably sell your car and buy all the cases you can.

It's not just the Lifelink. It only needs 2 points from laying it down to using its ultimate and obviously you get one of those immediately on putting it down. If you lay down Ajani Steadfast your opponent gets one turn to take out Sorin. Turn three Sorin, turn four Ajani - boom your opponent has to sac one creature every turn. Even without Ajani it's only two turns.

B/W Control Walkers? Elspeth + Sorin + Ajani. Black + White removal for creatures, Banishing Light for more planeswalker answers. Utter End. Read the Bones. You'd even have a nice manabase being only two colors.

In regards to wizards and print runs with expansions when they stop is based on time past release and not quantity. I want to say something like a year after release but don't quote me on that. Keep in mind once wizards "picks up a phone" to order more product from the printers it takes a couple of months to reach the hands of the end user.

Well this set will sell very briskly and running through your allocation for the first week or 2 will likely be fairly common. That said after the first few weeks and the initial burst there will be plenty of product. This set is going to be a monster for pack sales though.

Sigh. Really enjoyed the new cards in the MtgO beta and wanted to go last weekend/this weekend but fuck the pieces of shit who play at my LGSs. Can't wait to move back to AR next month where people don't act like pieces of shit when they lose and the owners don't put up with that shit if they do. Last time I played I dropped from a five round draft at 3-0 and gave my cards to a kid on the way out because I had three straight rounds against fuckers whose main strategy seemed like it was to be so fucking rude their opponents would refuse to play. Guy I beat in the third round was literally screaming as I left about how I stuck him with a match loss and then dropped. Which was hilarious and the intention. Rant over.

That blows man. My friend opened up a comic book shop and we basically 'got the band back together' of old players. It's so much fun drafting with about 10 folks and you like all of them.
