As someone who works casually at a LFGS the, "Outside traders " piss me the fuck off and if I catch them, they are banned for life, after I give them a warning, from the store. And by warning I mean I educate them on what running a business is actually like and how it hurts everyone in the long run. When younger kids do it they are just being that, kids, and I don't come down to hard on them but as Heylel mentioned earlier, its the 30-year-old "neck beards" that I drop the hammer of Thor down on.

Keep in mind this is also coming from someone who is willing to work with the customer when they are buying / selling cards to the store and if they are a bit short for a large transaction of cards I tell them not to worry about it. Some store owners will sit there and play hardball over $2 "MSRP IS MSRP DAMNIT!" and just alienate their main customer base. I learned this from my awesome auto repair guy. Long store short, I had an issue with my car, he quick popped open the hood, took a look, tweaked something and fixed it. I went to go pay for it and he said, "Na, don't worry about it" and sent me on my way. I have referred so many people to him because of this that it payed for the $50 or whatever he could have charged me a hundred times over.

Little off topic but (shrug)

Yeah, most people are going to do that. 9 times out of 10 it's because they're using something like Decked to check a TCG mid price. There's nothing wrong with that, but those prices are pretty susceptible to fluctuations. You can also get individual sellers who list wildly inflated prices that push up the overall average.

It's usually my go-to metric for a simple trade. I only check ebay, SCG and other vendors when I want to get a better idea of prices around the web.

When checking prices I use SCG for the simple fact that it is one spot and they keep up on their prices. Sure they are higher then average but that balances out on both ends in the long run. Like you said, who knows who is on CCGshark or whatever (mostly random people), and pretty much everyone knows SCG.

yea, I used to use a calculated 'low' price from tcg (the lowest mint version where someone had a fair amount of copies) but so many people just want to use SCG that I've caved and adopted it as my goto pricing.

Plus, I work at a LGS now too, and I'm in charge of our magic collection basically. The owner always used SCG prices anyways, so now I have to pay a lot more attention to them.

There used to be a store near me around the Coldsnap time period that still used Scrye for prices. They are no longer in business.

I worked at a hobby shop that sold Games Workshop and had CCGs. I loved running tourneys and playing/teaching. The absolute worst part of the job was defending our singles and the kids from those card shark trader types.

TCG mid is usually my standard comparison for pricing. Lowest Near Mint for foils.

So can we talk about how much dick Sorin sucks, and how hilarious it is that he's like 15$? Because holy shit is he awful.

Just think. On the draw you drop him down turn four and make a bat. Then your opponent plays Sarkol and activates and swings and you block with a bat. Then you make another bat on your turn and Sorin dies.

Then you reach for your sideboard.

I know. What kind of fucking world do we live in where your turn four drop dies in two turn to a turn 5 drop with haste on an empty board?

Seriously a retarded fucking example. Exactly how many four cost walkers don't die to Sarkan in two turns with a magically empty board? I don't even know what Sorins text reads. He may be shit. But he isn't as bad as your example I'm pretty sure.

I just don't see the deck that is looking for either of his abilities on turn 4. Although, it is interesting that his +1 lasts through your opponents turn.

Jaysus .. that is one bad Planeswalker. WTF were they smoking? I realise it would be OP but it would make more sense if they swapped the +1 and the -2 around.

He's not remotely as bad as you guys are making it sound, but he's designed for a different deck than Lord of Innistrad was. Sorin 2.0 was phenomenal for stretching out a game. You could gum up the board with 1/1 lifelinkers and dig yourself out of a hole. His -2 was what you wanted when the board was already full so you could go on the attack.

Sorin 3 flips that and it makes him a much different beast. His +1 can still be used defensively for a full turn, but you want an army already. Lifelink to your entire team is nothing to sneeze at and could well take a game out of reach just from a single swing (consider how often just landing a Batterskull makes winning impossible because you can no longer profitably attack into it). The -2 makes an evasive token, which has never been done without significant cost prior to now (Sarkhan the Mad).

He's designed to break board stalls, not prolong them. Try proxying him before you write him off. I've been happy with the effect.

It's meant for a deck that runs the long game. Who knows there may be a control deck that wants an edict a turn on T6. The +1 lasting through your opponents turn is powerful in a defensive deck. Does that deck exist? Does it want Sorin? Dunno. People said Jace was dogshit too. Not exactly apples to apples there but oh well. It's a good card. It just isn't an immediately powerful card. In other words it's a mid tier walker.

Jace, the Mind Sculptor has to minus to defend himself. So does Liliana of the Veil, Ajani Vengeant, Garruk Wildspeaker, Domri Rade...

Bad argument.
Only one of those walkers is Standard legal.

Xenagos +0, Nissa +1, Elspeth +1

Bad argument.

On a less snarky note, maybe Sorin ends up in a Mardu token deck? I hope so because I'd like the option of playing something without Coursers. More for variety's sake than anything.

He's got an asymmetrical Abyss after only a couple turns of hanging out. That's a very powerful effect for not much cost. There's just so many playable hastey dudes/effects coming in with him Mantis Rider, Savage Knuckleblade, Butcher of the Horde, Sarkhan, and Temur Ascendency) that he looks lower quality than he probably is. Hell, he might be a key card for Mardu and Abzan versus other aggro decks. You play some dudes and Sorin, lifelink, swing, and then proceed to automatically win all damage races.

edit - Ajani Vengeant can defend himself with his +1
