The closest anyone could get to pulling off Neilson's schtick would be someone like Alec Baldwin, Geoffrey Rush, Liam Neason, or Tommy Lee Jones; basically an old guy who is not above playing a lampoonish straight man version of themselves. Even then, it would be miles off target and would not work right with this IP. Ed Helms? Not a fucking chance. He is all the bad parts of Steve Carol and Jason Sudekis merged together. Its like they decided even Will Farrell or Dan Akroyd were beneath this shit. Fuck them for even trying.

Alec Baldwin would be a good choice. Going younger, but I think Steven Colbert could knock it out of the park. He does a good job in the Colbert Report of portraying the absurd in a sincere manner.

yeah, Im not sold yet. theres some ok chuckles there.

I think a big issue is the Dragnet/dick wolf style police procedurals are not in movies, or on tv currently. those that are, are so spread out in streaming platforms, its hard to sell the joke.

if you try to satire the more superhero, or action laden crime dramas like mission impossible/taken etc then, thats not the Naked gun anymore. its a different satire. which might be fun. obvously, the other guys, etc have done this. but, its not The Naked Gun.

It definitely felt like a gag you would have seen in the original movies - entire department being sons of prior characters. Then the OJ gag lol

First part of trailer made this look awful, second half got a laugh out of me too .

Much like A Million Ways to Die in the West, this will be a 6/10 with a few belly laughs and many more that fall flat. Watch and forget in T-minus 1 day.

The Naked Gun movies were made by the same guys who made the Airplane movies. Do you think that this is in the same vein?

This will be an abomination of apocalyptic proportions regarding slapstick comedy...?

This is going to be one of the worst remakes ever crafted, hands down, and it will be an abomination....

PS... It was a couple of Jews....
