There is no perfect definition of "clutch", but the 5 point difference is a problem. If a team is down by 15 and a player lights up the other team in the last couple of minutes to bring it within 5 then those first 10 points will be disregarded. Your team and the situation of your shot would have to be analyzed. Ray Allen standing at the 3 point line and only shooting open shots is going to have it much much easier than 2006 Kobe playing with rec league player and having to force shots against double teams or pass it to Kwame Brown. Ray Allen was assisted on 52% of his shots while Nash and Wade were only assisted on 17% and 18%.

Also a team down by 5 with 5 seconds left might play real soft defense inside to make sure the other team doesn't make a 3, so those would be counted as clutch in the author's definition. It also ignores free throws for some reason. A player missing critical free throws vs a player drawing contact and winning the game aren't differentiated at all which is bizarre.

A better analysis on clutch being a thing would be someone actually watching the tape of every individual shot and breaking them down into further subcategories. There's just way too many factors not accounted for.

I still don't believe clutch is a thing.

OK. I'll correct my original statement.

Pierce was not very good at making shots at the end of close games.

Getting their shit pushed in, looks like. Would be pretty sad if they lose to the Lakers.

Well that's a pretty bad loss. Biggest upset in NBA history? Ouch.

Largest winning pct. difference in an NBA upset ever.

Literally the worst loss of all-time.

What the fuck? I can only imagine all the smug Laker's fans who think it's a legit win. Did the Warriors play that poorly or what? It's still possible the Spurs overtake the #1 seed in the west.

They simply couldn't make a three to save their life. I have to imagine this was the Warrior's worst thee point shooting game of the season. Their defense wasn't that great either, but the inability to convert a three did them in.

Warriors shot less than 15% behind the arc. Steph went 1/10 from there.

4-30 from three I think is what the final numbers were for the Warriors? And one thing the Lakers do have, is some quick guards. Clarkson & Russell's speed played well.

Bulls lost to the Raptors during their 72-10 season which was Toronto's first year in the league. I'd say this Lakers team has more talent than that Raptors team did considering Damon Stoudamire as a rookie was the best player on the team.

Speaking of the Raptors, blowing an 18 point lead against the Rockets today sucked. They couldn't get their rotations right on defense in the 2nd half and Houston got way too many open 3s. Casey is finally making changes I was shouting about a year ago, so I'm glad to see he CAN adjust...I just worry he isn't quick/smart enough to make the right adjustments in a close game or even a 7-game series.

Took Sam 60 games but finally found a starting lineup that produces for the Wolves. Rubio/Lavine/Wiggins/Dieng/Towns is a really good group on the floor together and every one of those guys is 25 or under. Dieng compliments Towns so well I no longer think this team is in dire need of a PF. Bench needs a ton of work, but a solid offseason there and a real coach and I think this team can push for the playoffs next year and should definitely be there two years out.

Bogut is 2/2 from three in his Warriors career. Best three-point shooter on the Warriors.
