There is no perfect definition of "clutch", but the 5 point difference is a problem. If a team is down by 15 and a player lights up the other team in the last couple of minutes to bring it within 5 then those first 10 points will be disregarded. Your team and the situation of your shot would have to be analyzed. Ray Allen standing at the 3 point line and only shooting open shots is going to have it much much easier than 2006 Kobe playing with rec league player and having to force shots against double teams or pass it to Kwame Brown. Ray Allen was assisted on 52% of his shots while Nash and Wade were only assisted on 17% and 18%.
Also a team down by 5 with 5 seconds left might play real soft defense inside to make sure the other team doesn't make a 3, so those would be counted as clutch in the author's definition. It also ignores free throws for some reason. A player missing critical free throws vs a player drawing contact and winning the game aren't differentiated at all which is bizarre.
A better analysis on clutch being a thing would be someone actually watching the tape of every individual shot and breaking them down into further subcategories. There's just way too many factors not accounted for.
I still don't believe clutch is a thing.
