My favorite book, and I'm not sure I want this. If they fuck it up I'll have to hire a few Iranians...
At least they are making a TV series, a movie would've been a suicide.

No fucking way
I thought this book would never make it to the screen. Of course it will be DEI trash, so there is that. On the plus side it cant be worse than Johnny Mnemonic.

Just look on the bright side. When an adaptation is announced there is always the question, will it suck?

When they release casting like that it answers the question without wasting a single second watching it.

I just file it away like The Dark Tower: a book someone should have adapted to film but never has.

It's a shame no one ever made a movie sequel to Highlander. At least we got a legendary TV series out of it.

I know absolutely nothing about this comic(?), nor anything about the quality of any of the people cast in it; so the casting doesn't look that bad since it's set in the future. Outside of the hair she is far from the ugliest woman in current Hollywood and the only better looking black woman that I can think of is Zazie Beetz.

Apple has had decent luck getting good performances out of their actors, even if they skew all their shit woke, but there is no escaping that, if you are going to watch current media. Which is why over the last month I have re-watched Mad Men and Rome again, but that's another matter.

It’s a sci fi novel from the 80s. The problem people have with casting like this is they’ve read a book for decades and the author paints a picture of what that person looks like. It’s impossible to match everyone’s head description but people do get mad when it’s way out of line of the source material and especially mad when they’re just trying to push a DEI agenda.

William Gibson (author of the book) is considered the father of Cyberpunk. Neuromancer is the book that made the genre noteworthy by bringing all the elements of Cyberpunk together. While there are authors (Phillip K Dick with Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep) and movies (Bladerunner based off the aforementioned book) that came before Neuromancer’s release, they weren‘t popular enough to be considered genre defining.

There's just not much to Neuromancer, and its not like you can add much from Count Zero, given that it's an entirely new cast. I suppose you could maybe work in some random Burning Chrome bits, but the only really relevant chunks (namely Molly's participation in Johnny Mnemonic) are going to be tough to include without that chunk of characters.

And we all know (from Johnny Mnemonic) what happens when they stretch the source material.

(I admit I am in the partial Johnny Mnemonic defense force. The editing is extremely dull, and you could get a tighter product with a re-edit. Nothing will fix the 90s dolphin tech, however.)
