given the longevity and continuity of the sixteen year run the patriots are on, do we have to say that either Brady or belichick are the best ever at their respective spots? If Brady isn't the best, must belichick be, or vice versa?

The fact that Belichick and Brady do it during this free agency and salary cap era, put them leaps and bound ahead of Walsh/Montana.

This is the 4th different "team" Brady has taken to the Super Bowl. It's not like the Steelers, 49'ers or Cowboys who had one run. The Pats are doing this with roster turnover, it's unreal.

That's a reflection of the times though. Salary caps and free agency make it harder to keep a team together, but they make it much easier to build a team or bring in guys to fill needs.

Comparing people from different eras is just jerking off. It was a different game back then. Did you know that Colin Kaepernick has the 17th highest passer rating in NFL history? Ahead of Dan Marino, Troy Aikman, Brett Favre, and John Elway? There's just too many things that change over time. Belichick and Brady are the best in this era. Saying more than that is just ass talk.

Not sure how old you are, but remember Jimmy Johnson when he left Dallas and went right into broadcasting? Someone asked him could create a dynasty now like he had in Dallas. His response was along the lines of "It would be easier now with free agency."

You REALLY needed to draft and develop well back then to be competitive. You fucked that up and you were done for the decade. (Christ the Bucs were bad my entire life until Dungy got there because how bad they drafted/developed). The good news was once you got your guys, they were locked for life pretty much. That was all part and parcel of coaching.

BB and the Pats have had the luxury of fucking up some drafts, and moving on because of free agency. Walsh, Johnson, Knoll (Thier GM's and teams also obviously also) were great at drafting/development/coaching without that luxury. Making what they did IMO just as impressive.

Is BB/Brady the best ever? Yes. But not by a mile. Jimmy Johnson/Aikman were great. Walsh/Montana were great. Those were the dynasty's in my time.

Nah, you're just ignorant to greatness and the salary cap apparently. Brady and Belichick transcend era, this is unparalleled greatness, literally. No other coach/QB has won this often. The fact that in this era you can't keep all your good players reinforces that. Bringing in guys to fill needs is not new to this era, that's how teams are always filled out.

I don't understand what your Kaepernick stat has to do with this conversation?

Update on the food bit for my party---bought the 30" smoker- bit skinnier than i'd prefer, but it will do everything i want (might have to trim some rib racks) so now sunday morning @8am ish putting the pork butt on for pulled pork, then about 1pm putting in the ribs, then 2pm putting in the wings. (guests arriving around 5) if all goes according to plan all the meat will be done- about the same time(wings and ribs- pulled pork should be done a bit earlier for final prep(the pulling part).

Not sure how long you've watched football, but Johnson went to Miami for 3 years after Dallas.

He was apparently wrong about it being much easier. Also, Someone saying something was much harder back when they didn't doesn't really hold a lot of weight.

It took him three years in Dallas to turn that around with fantastic drafting/trade. Jimmy fucked that drafting up in Miami big time. He quit once he realized they were fucked because of it. I did forget about that. No idea what you mean on that second statement though.

Not denying that. Hell I am from Boston. I'm saying it's not by a mile. PLUS there were power houses in the NFC during that time. The Giants and Redskins were great teams. I'm real here. The Pats have had a couple cake walks into the Super Bowl, win or lose em. Though it's not their fault their division sucks, and the conference as a whole has been...good not great as a whole for a decade or so.

Belichick might have won more games, but Walsh's offense revolutionized football and the guys from his coaching tree went on to win 5 more super bowls running variations on it. The Atlanta Falcons will be running it on Sunday. I don't know if Belichick has actually innovated anything or has any legacy aside from winning a lot of games with Brady.

I think Manning in his prime was better, but for an overall career it's gotta be Brady. And for coaches I don't think anyone is close to belichick.

Part of why they can do it is Brady is willing to take much less than market value so that the team can pick up better players
