First, Toews had the puck. Second, Toews just had his head down and wasnt in a dangerous area to be hit. Third, Initial point of contact is the shoulder on Toews. Fourth, Toews didnt get knocked out/concussion.

1. Orpik's skates leave the ice
2. Orpik nails Toews right in the side of the head, clear as day, even the announcers say it, at least Backes got checked in the front of the body
3. Toews was "unsuspecting" and "defenseless"
4. He was definitely injured, you can see it when he is sitting on the bench right afterwards
5. And Toews didnt have the puck for at least a second before getting nailed by orpik

Brosar just so we're clear, I wasn't commenting on whether them judging "intent" for themselves was silly for determining suspensions, only that they do in fact judge intent and take that into account when they are determining suspensions.
Orpik hit is different, it's Orpik though so fuck him.

Exactly. Intent. The INITIAL point of contact was Toews shoulder, that happened to almost hit his head after. Toews had his head down admiring the puck for some reason. A big no no in hockey. Orpiks hit was clean.

I think both were legal hits, but I'm really annoyed by the double standard and even moreso by those who choose to defend the double standard.
I didnt bitch about the Orpik hit and I'm annoyed by people bitching about the Backes hit, acting like he was shoved headfirst into the boards or something. I mean you even have fags like Sweet Prince Empire now using words like "unsuspecting" and "defenseless" to determine guilt. Fuck, if I checked someone who was "suspecting" it and was already anticipating the hit, that a pretty shittily executed check.

I'm not surprised seabrook got time off, wouldn't have been surprised if orpik had got time. Also not surprised at the nhl inconsistency, it cost $20k more to motion to you balls on the bench than intentionally hitting another player in the balls with your stick.
I'm actually surprised at the length of seabrook suspension, I would guessed 1 to 2 considering each playoff game is treated as 2 regular season games.

Nails him simultaneously in the head and the shoulder. Its right in the video, clear as day. But that doesnt matter anyways because the NHL rules say nothing about the initial point of contact, only the primary point. Do you even hockey?
Backes also lowers his body right before the hit, if he doesnt do that, then Seabrook who is already mid stride into the check, nails him right in the numbers.
Intent? Orpik already gave another guy a concussion back in December. Seabrook? Never has been fined/disciplined for anything or considered a dirty player in his 9 years in NHL.
