It's the whole bird in hand thing. Obviously if the Flames turn those picks into stud(s) then its a huge trade for them. Right now Florida's bet is the safe one IMO. Big time young talent locked up for a long time.

They can trade both of them at this coming deadline for even more picks/prospects. A player like Hub on that cap hit this year? Two 1sts easily.

Teams going into the playoffs don't tend to move expiring contracts just sort of a general rule across the league. There's an exception every now and then but its a very hard sale to make to both the management group as well as the players. Two 1sts is also unlikely. The price for rentals don't really change from season to season at the deadline. How good the player is doesn't really matter, just that he's the 'best player available'. You'd have to make the case Huberdeau is even that best player available with Kane out there and his playoff experience.

You make a good point with Kane potentially being available as well, but the biggest point for Hub is his cap hit this year is only $5.9M. Calgary being able to retain half that to increase their return makes him a hugely attractive piece even to cap strapped teams.

Obviously if Calgary is still in win now mode, they won't end up moving either guy. Just curious how their season ends up going, if it takes a turn for the worst, they have a couple of big pieces to sell now.

Lol at Klingberg thinking he was gonna get some huge 7x8 contract. Waited too long and got stuck with a 1 year deal with the Ducks.

Whelp Calgary locked up Hubie until he’s 78 years old and for the low low price of 9 trillion dollars.

Sucks for Lehner. Ive always cheered for the guy. It was obvious his body just completely fell apart last season. Logan Thompson looks like he has a lot of potential though. So excited to see how he does.

Calgary actually looks better this year than last year. Still have an elite winger, finally got a #1 Dman and now a really good 2C and dumped the corpse of Monahan.

So he's going to be 37, 38, and 39 earning 7 off the roster? Is that smart? Everyone saying Calgary made good moves but I'm not seeing it.

Thats a bad way to look at it. 1) the salary cap is going up every year 2) you focus on the next few years not the last 3) trade him at the end if needed

They committed to staying a playoff team rather than go through another rebuild. Fans are going to stop showing up if every time they get decent their core walks and they go back to shit
