If true, yeah. I was thinking he was looking for a 2 year bridge deal so the cap can go up more, then get the fat contract. Problem with that is this is the last year anyone can sign an 8 year contract and Kaprizov is already 28. I had thought he was 26 or so. He's a UFA after this year, so maybe he wants out.

I really feel so badly for Florida. Honest.
It's hard to feel bad for Florida. For Barkov himself and for Finland though? Fucking brutal.
With the new LTIR rules, Florida will have a decision to make too. Get full cap relief but make him ineligible to play for the season or just get partial relief with the possibility that he's available for the playoffs?
Also, we do need a new thread. Somebody make one or I'll have to do it with an even shittier title than this one.

If they LTIR his full amount he is ineligible for reg season AND playoffs. If they want they can LTIR $3.8 mill and he will be eligible to play and hope he can come back at some point, but if he cant they are losing out on a lot of $$$. On top of that if they choose the $3.8 mill they still have to be cap compliant for every playoff game.
The ideal way to do it would be to take the $3.8 and wait a few months to see how he is progressing. If bad then make him ineligible to play for the entire year and get the rest of the cap relief.

Florida or not, sucks seeing one of the best players in the league miss an entire season before even playing a game. Adding in finally getting the Olympics is even worse. Finland is always fun to watch. They play harder than anyone.
