kid's grampa wants to buy them a SECOND switch 2 so they have one at their house, and for road trips.
i told him to just buy a dock and 2 pro controllers if he feeling all money bags but he seems set on it.
...but why? It's portable. Is someone else at the house playing it while a road trip is going on?
I've known a few people who wasted money like this, buying "backup systems" in case their PS2 failed, or parents getting a second system for a sibling when the kids only had one TV. Also had friends who bought multiple copies of games so that one could stay in the wrap, or filled shelves with games (bought at new price) that they didn't ever open or play.
Most of these people later complained to me about finances, or not being able to pay their bills, or struggling to afford whatever. And I'd always be like "why don't you sell some of the $6000 worth of unopened games over here that you're never going to play" and they'd balk.
People acting like moneybags and just being overall wasteful, then inevitably turning out to be folks who can't manage their money later in life. Nowadays the in-thing to do is say something about "game preservation" to explain the need to buy buy buy and then wait to buy next product. People pretending they're the damn Library of Alexandria because they had no impulse control with their spending habits.
