kid's grampa wants to buy them a SECOND switch 2 so they have one at their house, and for road trips.

i told him to just buy a dock and 2 pro controllers if he feeling all money bags but he seems set on it.

...but why? It's portable. Is someone else at the house playing it while a road trip is going on?

I've known a few people who wasted money like this, buying "backup systems" in case their PS2 failed, or parents getting a second system for a sibling when the kids only had one TV. Also had friends who bought multiple copies of games so that one could stay in the wrap, or filled shelves with games (bought at new price) that they didn't ever open or play.

Most of these people later complained to me about finances, or not being able to pay their bills, or struggling to afford whatever. And I'd always be like "why don't you sell some of the $6000 worth of unopened games over here that you're never going to play" and they'd balk.

People acting like moneybags and just being overall wasteful, then inevitably turning out to be folks who can't manage their money later in life. Nowadays the in-thing to do is say something about "game preservation" to explain the need to buy buy buy and then wait to buy next product. People pretending they're the damn Library of Alexandria because they had no impulse control with their spending habits.

In the case of old people, depending on how old, they are stuck in this mentality of "Plenty".

My parents are a bit better than my in-laws about spending money but it's basically 2 different issues from the same tree. Her parents buy way more than they need and waste a ton of shit.

We go to christmas, tell them "We have your gifts at our house, they don't need to unwrap anything here, it's okay." Nope, they still go out and buy like 200 dollars in junk toys that live 1/2 way through the visit because they are cheap Chinese bullshit. Makes me feel like shit because it's just flushing money down the drain and the kids don't need it.

Hell, I remember that they bought them this stupid orb toy with a fanblade in it that you could float from one person to another. Kid wanted to try it at night because it had lights. In-laws say to do it outside, I figure father in law knows best because he saw people using it where he bought it. We went outside, turned it on, lightly tossed it back and fourth a bit before wind (like..a light blow) came and took that sucker 10 feet into the air. We watched it float off into the distance, blinking lights and all. I just looked at the kid and was like, "we don't tell grandpa and grandma...ok?" meanwhile he is dying laughing after he had the *gasp* reaction.

Found out later that my father in law paid 40...fucking...dollars for it. He bought 3...

It's also kind of a pain in the ass to use your digital games on multiple Switches. Not "completely impossible" like it used to be, but it's still a nuisance. Not to mention that you need to have Nintendo's shitty online subscription in order to do cloud saves back and forth.

I can see having multiple just to not have the kids argue over it. It's why you buy 2 of everything, at least with my 2 boys we do. They aren't of age that i feel video games are appropriate (trying to delay the inevitable) so I only bought one, but play when they are sleeping or when times handheld can be leveraged.

However you feel if its useless, fuck nintendo, or whatever the excuse, if you have 2+ kids i can easily see why there are multiple units, and same with every other toy you buy them.

Bullshit how old are they? Most people here started at 4 years old - and as you can see, everyone who posts here is a picture of perfection.

They are 5 and 3. I'll try to keep them technology free as long as I can, although they can take phone pics. No iPad or anything like that. It's a futile effort but they'll have their whole life to use devices, I'm just trying to delay that.

My life would have been so much better if I hadn't gotten a Game Boy and Metroid 2 when I was ten. Metroid 2 was so good that it led me to the Super NES and Super Metroid, which in turn opened up the entire SNES library for me to run around chasing the Super Metroid dragon from that point on.

Even with the delay of not gaming until age 10, the amount of time and energy I've spent gaming since could have been used to get a doctorate (multiple times over) and who knows what else.

Speaking of Metroid...

Been waiting literally 20 years for the AVGN to do a Metroid video. He seems to be doing more of these multi-game more serious reviews now. His Castlevania and Contra videos in the recent past were both really good as well.

So they have mapped fully all 441-pins on the Switch2s CPU/GPU.

Some have even gotten them to respond to raw commands during boot-up, they are getting there rofl.

there's a b2g1 on all preowned games at gamestop if you wanna pick up some older shit. its eye opening to see the literal only switch 2 launch games were mario kart world, cyberpunk 2077, and street fighter 6 lol

i grabbed some of the xenoblades, played the first one and didn't love it (felt like shitty MMO fedex quest the game) but maybe ill fuck around with them some day

I did that with Cyan, and possibly Strago. Not sure if I did it with any other characters. Cyan was my favorite character by a mile and felt like the most "main" character* as he was diametrically opposed to Kefka in values, personality, etc and had a personal vendetta. I got him maxed-out on levels and espers, then got bummed-out because he ended at like 9750 HP (without focusing any esper bonuses). No 9999 for me.

Strago I just liked, and felt like the game undersold him. He's slooooow though.

* - The beauty of FF6 is that almost any character can be the "main character" if you want them to. Technically Terra and Celes are the co-main characters, but you can make Cyan, or Edgar, or Sabin, or hell even Shadow the "main guy" if you want to and they all live up to it in their own ways. Not so much with Relm, Umaro, Gogo, but yeah. They wouldn't achieve this level of "anyone could be the main character" again until FF12.

Idk, the main character was who the story revolves around. FF6 was Terra, while FF12 was no one.

It is solidly Terra and Celes - Terra just gets an advantage of being introduced and playable first.

Everyone else just has solid ties and motivation that - once established allows you to put them in the MC driver seat.

Starting WoR with Celes and her attempted suicide etc shows she is on equal footing as Terra as “the official MC(s)”

FF8 sucks, just a reminder.

Impressive, 5 million people wanted to play Mario kart and Mario Kart alone for months.
