I have the actual Virtual Boy in my garage. I know it was worth more than we paid for it as of a few years ago (we got it when they were trying to give them away for, like $20). I wonder if this will make the OG hardware worth more or less.

You just insert the switch into the thing. Can you just play it on your TV or is there some screwy focus stuff going on?

Can't see anyone but collectors buying this thing as who would play more than a few minutes bent over a table (pun intended).

I'm not even sure collector's will want it. You can play any games on it without a NSO subscription.

So Metroid prime 4 Dec 4 everything else remakes and bullshit.

I'll believe Metroid Prime 4 exists when I actually see it on a store shelf.

The bike stuff...why

Nintendo has burned through all their goodwill with me over the years so I'm not going to jump up and down cheering every time they announce something like their fanbase does.

I mean, every Metroid Prime game has had its gimmicks so far.. Metroid Prime itself was a huge change from the classic 2D Metroid games in gameplay, pacing and the focus on scanning the environment, Metroid Prime 2 was all about the light and dark phase shifting and Metroid Prime 3 had a lot of focus on the grappling hook and it had all those other bounty hunters so it was different in that you're not on your own the entire game. Even Metroid Dread with the E.M.M.I. robot sequences... so I don't see what the big deal is about Metroid Prime 4 having some open world and a (pretty cool-looking) bike.

I'm pretty excited about playing it after all these years.

If I could play them normally on the Switch id be more interested. I dont want to have to use the eye thing. I have my Virtual Boy from the 90s still. It sucks to use.

The one cool thing about Virtual Boy is the Wario Land game on there. TBH I like that game (and the Wii one, Wario Land: Shake It) more than I liked any of the actual numbered Wario Land sequels on the GBC and GBA. I mean, Wario Land 4 was okay, but 2 and 3 bored me to tears and went on way too long. It's a shame because Wario Land 1 was one of my favorite games as a kid. Like top five on Game Boy, easily.

The virtual boy Wario Land is a very good platformer that, like most VB games no one saw.

RedAlarm is a fun space corridor shooter that you go free roam in the boss sequences

Tennis is great but mostly because its fairly simple and the 3d makes it fun

The two Japanese games they show as becoming available will be awesome.. I hope as I never got to play them. One or both are super rare and expensive I’ve on eBay. The one with the moon cover is like 500$

Just checked eBay… forgot about Jack Bros and WaterWorld …

Jack bros is like 900$ its shown on the Nintendo direct, waterworld is not, so it may stay its 500$ on eBay lol

This Virtual Boy thing would be cool if it was just straight emulation (playing it on the TV in as 3D-ish as they can make it).

However, you need a $100 add-on, and it's a headache-inducing headset, plus you need the Switch Online Plus or whatever the expensive subscription is.

What teh fock

Anyone else find it funny how mouse control seems to be such a big gimmick for the Switch 2? It's like wow, a feature I have had since I started playing games on a computer, so revolutionary!

They will do everything possible to reinvent every wheel they can rather than jusy make a mouse. Or do steam-like online game usage

Pokemon Gen 10 leaks for anybody that missed it.

The villain is basically Trump lol

"Procedurally generated" raises huge red flags. Not sure I want to play a procedurally generated Pokemon game. Give me something carefully refined and curated by real people.

What they should do is just make another Scarlet-type open world-ish game, while fixing the graphical issues and various other things people didn't like about Gen 9. Have a few storylines playing out side by side and let the player roam the world and tackle things in any order they want, limited only by their character power (kinda like Elden Ring). Gen 9 did all of this decently well, even if it got hated-on for the most part it seemed like.

"Everything old is...still old, but we expect you to pay for it again lol"

I haven't used my Switch 2 since July. Been trying to figure out if there's anything upcoming that would make sense to play on it, like something retro-style, just to get some sort of use out of it again.

We haven't used ours at all either. What a boner killer of a system launch. Yeah they had stock... But no software

i even bought pokemon za and was gonna play my first pokemon but my nephew (big into all that pokemon shit now) said the new game sucked so i returned it lol

It's because they all suck more or less and we need better games. Usually we are treated to one or two actual good games per year :(

I haven't personally played a lot of switch 2. I 'finished' windwaker (i'm on the last boss and am waiting for the kids to want to see the ending). played some mario kart with the kids.

mostly they play on it, or the wife plays stardew valley.

I mostly just find myself playing games with interesting mechanics and replayability and comfort to play (keyboard and mouse) so i find myself playing like rimworld again rather than seeing whats up on the switch.

Still for a kids' gaming system it's pretty unparalelled.

There are some great Pokemon games and Z-A isn't one of them.

On Switch you've got a few options. Let's Go Pikachu is a remake of Gen 1, which would seem like a no-brainer on a good first Pokemon to play, but it has some really tedious game mechanics. Pokemon Legends Arceus is full of empty space and little respect for your time; most people love it, but as someone like you who needs some real motivation to even turn on a game, I don't recommend it.

That leaves Gen 8 (Sword/Shield) and Gen 9 (Scarlet/Violet). Gen 8 is more your traditional Pokemon RPG, go from town to town defeating gym leaders. Gen 9 is more of an "Elden Ring Pokemon", open world and has tons of objective markers to hit, with three different main storylines that can be progressed in any order and parallel to each other. Personally I loved Gen 9, but a lot of people didn't because it has framerate issues.

TLDR: Pokemon Sword is probably a good first one to run through and get the idea of whether you like the series or not. If you want to go back and play Gen 1 retro-style and try to capture the magic of someone else's nostalgia, run Pokemon FireRed (GBA, Switch Online might have it, or the eShop, and easy enough to emulate if they don't).

Personally I'm also in the boat where turning on a game has become more and more difficult as time goes by, and I frequently drop a project soon after starting it. Helps to plan things out. Like I've got Red Dead Redemption and Xenoblade 3 pencilled in as my "finish by the end of the year" games (+RDR2 if I have time, +Metroid Prime 4 if it actually launches) to give me some focus. I pretty much never replay anything besides Fromsoft games, either, everything else is a one and done these days.

I took my steam deck on a work trip and played it a bit. Nintendo just doesn't have shit out.

But I feel you man. I'm on my PC all day for work and I despise gaming on it after work.
