No Time to Die (007 Bond)

Here's another video that I made. It's the first 15 minutes of the movie, but starts a few minutes in. I was trying to record the opening theme which happened seconds after this is over, so I stopped and started filming again for that one.

From around 5 minutes until 20 minutes of the movie.

i mean, you say that, but Casino Royal itself was kindof bending to the culture of the day. Action, jump cuts, "gritty realism". Lots of complaints of it trying to be Bourne.

While Mission Impossible really took the mantle of classic Bond.

oof even Angry Joe hated this movie and i can't even remember the last movie or video game he disliked (he tends to shill easy). Will definitely be interesting to see how this does box office wise, projections right now are for a $60m opening weekend which seems crazy weak considering F&F did 70m, Black Widow did 80m, and Venom did 90m.

By comparison Spectre did $70m, Skyfall $88, and Casino Royale did $40m. The three of them did really well globally though, I can't see No Time To Die doing even half as well as even Spectre.

The movie won't be on VOD until late Dec, with blurays on Jan 14th 2022.

they changed their pitch from "Bond for the Metoo era" to "this is Craig's last movie as Bond". you always get more money that way, those who are invested in the franchise will show up and say, "eh its Craig's last movie. might as well". all the YT channels i watch are saying the James Bond franchise is over, but they are also saying its not a bad movie. its gonna make some money.

It wasn't a bad movie. It was very good. Told a nice story. I got a little misty thinking about the woman and her daughter towards the end.

Black chick really didn't do a god damn thing. She was present and that's all. And then she says she wants James re-instated as 007, so he became 007 once more (not that it mattered... it's never brought up again), and instantly goes off to battle once more.

it underperformed domestically, but it did pretty well globally.
probably hit 600 million when all is said and done. not even breaking even.

I wonder how much it's runtime is hurting it. Attendance wasnt bad when I went and saw it, compared to Venom, but the amount of times it is showing a day is less than half, due to the fact that its nearly 4 hours per showing with previews/cleanup/turn over time for a theater, compared to just over 2 hours for Venom. It showed roughly half the times that Venom did.

It does have a China release upcoming, as well.

the big place near me, starts showings at 11:50am, bond gets 3 shows per screen, venom/adam family get 4-5. bond and venom are on 3 screens, 9 showings for bond and 14 for venom. adams family is 93 mins, on 2 screens and gets 9 showings.

the other multiplex, has 8 bonds and 13 venoms.

As is so often the case, the Pitch Meeting is likely more entertaining than the movie they're lampooning.

whats really funny is that no one is talking about the fact they brought in Phoebe Wallace to "dress up" the movie back in 2018, she was the hottest thing around after Killing Eve and Fleabag and other bullshit chick crap. Of course she rewrites Bond to be a cuck faggot pussy and no one wants to go see it. You don't see a single article blaming her, instead everyone is blaming people for being too old for theaters (??) even though Venom 2 did almost double, that Bond is too old, and whatever other crazy ass excuses they can come up with other than "MAYBE THE SCRIPT SUCKED ASS".

The director is also asian (Fukunawa, who was awesome for True Detective and the Idris Elba africa warlord movie) so no one blames him, because white people apparently can only blame bad results on white men.

Yes. I mean, watch the Graham Norton interview clip a page or so back. He mentions her and they can’t say anything nice about her so they fumble over their words and pretty much say nothing.

In case you guys missed how movie the movie business works, the initial ticket sales have almost nothing to do with the quality of the movie. Even bad professional reviews and bad early audience reviews have little impact when compared to the weight of the marketing (to use a general term that includes the pull of the IP and of the cast/crew, the money spent on advertisements, the number of screens the film releases to, etc). Word of mouth has an impact past the initial release for the staying power of the film (how long and how fat the tail).

In the particular case of No Time to Die, both the professional and the audience reviews are solid enough to ensure decent staying power (84% / 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, 68 / 6.3 on Metacritics - most people think it's ok, not a lot think its great), but if anything hurt the initial ticket sales of this new Bond, it's the previous Bond (63% / 61% on RT, 60 / 6.8 on MC - the much lower audience RT score yet higher MC score must mean it's a more divisive entry, a few people really enjoyed that almost abstract mess).

Spectre being kinda lame has almost certainly more impact than the fact a plot element seems to be a rivalry between Bond and a black female agent or that an unexpected writer got on board.

Also, Angerz and Goatface make a good point about the length of the movie and the impact it has on the way it is shown in theaters. I am not sure all multiplex operators are keen on the idea of having half their screens be the new Bond movie because of its length. I remember there were some drama back in the days of Titanic : some theaters were showing it at 25 fps instead of 24, because the 10 minutes it saved allowed them to fit an extra screening in their schedule !
