Most 2080tis were around 1400, 1700 dollars for a card isn't *that* insane if it's the best of the best.

Not saying it's a great idea but I also think the 3080 FE is a little underpriced which makes the 3090 look more overpriced than it really is.

looks like a new 3080 sku went up behind the scenes in nvidias backend files, people are guessing its the future 3080 with 20GB as it was listed with a price of $899, $200 more than the current 3080 FE

Honestly that's completely reasonable to me. I'll probably get one.

At least once water blocks are actually available and I know what cards it'll work on

Or that's just the Canadian price. Tough to say

10% improvement at 4K, totally not worth the price premium

3090s were rough, newegg sold out in under 15 seconds, nvidia was a bit choppy but lasted like a minute but most people lost it on the final page (gotta be fast like sonic), amazon hasn't put up theirs yet.

3080 seems the real sweet spot, but yeah waiting for the 20GB version, assuming its not ludicrously priced, will be the smart move I think.
Calling out Linus with that money bit?

Thinking on this a bit - the 3080 20GB has to be less performance than the 3090... so how good can it realistically be?

The 3090 is at best 15% better than the 3080

I would expect it to be essentially the same performance in current games. The 20GB gives you some future proofing as games continue to grow in memory demands.

I'm going to ask the obvious question, is there anything out there that is going to remotely test these new cards?

I appreciate most of us are a bit older and have a chunk of disposable income so is it just more of a case of getting the best rather than compromising?

I could be wrong, but doesn't MS Flight Simulator recommend 16G VRAM? If I'm going to get a new card, I want it to be sort of future proof, for at least 3 to 4 years. I could see a lot of 4K games requiring at least 16G, so I'm okay if the new 3080 is in that sweet spot between the current 3080, and the 3090, at probably somewhere around $799 to $899.

I can't remember the last time I used something other than an Nvidia card, but this might be AMD's chance with how this launch has gone.
If AMD had something to rival the 3080, we would have heard all about it by now.

At 4k, It's ~13.5% more performance for 10% more watts, so it actually goes up in price per performance.

I'm really interested in seeing the 3070 launch. Hopefully I can actually buy one before December.

Well my laziness saved me 1500 bucks this morning. 6am was way to early to get up and hunt a card down. 3080 with 20g of ram seems like the best choice. I really thought the 3090 would have been way better then the 3080.

Why would you want a 3070 when a 3080 is only $200 more?

edit: nevermind, I forgot about your whole dilemma about being "trapped" in an unventilated room....

The only reason you would need the 3090 is if you're gaming in 8K. I think the card was pretty much built for that in mind (or you're doing pro 3D rendering).
