just curious why DDR4 instead of DDR5, i have no clue what either things means other than its memory. sounds neat though, just seeing all those numbers makes me feel like Tim the Toolman

i wistfully eye sometimes getting a new PC since mines almost 5 years old now but literally the only thing I've run in the last 3 months on my PC is chrome. Someone out there MUST be working on using RTX to make porn better or something, c'mon

Isn't finding DDR5 as hard as getting a graphics card atm?

From what I read when I got my new pc is that ddr4 vs 5 increase is currently so negligible (like 2% increase on benchmarks) it's not worth buying now even if you are trying to "future proof" which is laughable for PC. Pick it up later when it's cheaper and more ubiquitous.

DDR5 is ridiculous hard to find(and expensive), and currently even though it's faster memory, the latency is very high. From some stuff i've seen fast/low latency DDR4 can out perform DDR5. So i went with some of the fastest, lowest latency DDR4 available.

Last I looked into it was a few months ago and the gain vs the price between the two just didnt make sense. I mean if DDR5 gets better latency standards and gets up into that mythical 12+ range versus the 5k range for ddr4 - AND the rest of the hardware is in place to actually take advantage of it, never mind the cooling its probably going to need ( back to memory cooling again, I suspect) then ya, no contest. But you're right, its just not worth it right now.

Would highly, highly recommend you do not buy the MSI MAG Core liquid cooler. I bought one to replace the tiny 120 aio that came with the pre-built Cyberpowerpc I bought and it is failing after about 4 months. It makes a terrible grinding noise if my cpu goes under load for more than a few minutes and if you read online this is not uncommon at all. The design they use (with the pump in the radiator instead of the block) is apparently very prone to forming air bubbles inside the pump, which is what causes the issue. Go with Corsair or NZXT or whatever, don't buy the MSI.

Just grabbed a 3080 Ti off Best Buy drop, tried 3080 FE (no luck) on phone app and Ti on desktop site, picked up in store next week. No TotalTech membership.

Now to build a new desktop around it… will a 1300w psu suffice?

Good luck man - I’m not sure if location default matters, but my Best Buy is in a small population center and I’ve had no luck with FEs, will be “in line” and then click on verify account, then it says “not within 50 miles”.

Yeah it looks like that's basically what happened. I'm not sure Little Rock gets many cards :) Even when they do the in store announcements they're usually only for the Fayetteville / Rogers area store. Oh well, made for the 2nd most exciting 10 minutes of my morning.

Last time they changed to Monday and there was no update to show they had a Thursday one planned so it was unknown if they are continuing them or switching to Mondays. Those were the notes in the Falcodrin Discord.
