Current rumors say: 4070 with 300W power draw, at least on par with a 3080 on rasterization, but improved RT performance.
This is nearly exactly what I said, while Misty is saying that the 4070 will beat the 3090TI.

I'd love to be wrong and and for the 4070 to mop up everything that currently exists on a 350W power draw, but that seems so ludicrous given the power draw of the current gen and the rumors that power budget is going to the moon.

I also am not sold on the 4070 at $499 MSRP, but we'll see. I think they know that only the people who really want 4000 series cards will buy them and so they'll put them at $549 is possible. Of course, RDNA3 is going to have a lot to say about prices in 2023.

Isn't this literally every generation of cards. DOUBLE THE PERFORMANCE, QUIETER AND LESS POWER, INSANE VALUE

Then the actual cards release and it's the same thing since the dawn of time - 20-30% performance gains across comparable models and prices no one is actually happy with.

4070 is definitely going to be $549 or $599 and the AIB vendors will probably tack on 120 bucks+ of nothing like last time.

There are exceptions. I remember when the 1080 came out and the 980 that I thought was fucking awesome suddenly looked like poop.

This has the full methodology.

I think I see a secret pattern, each generation gets bigger than the previous and usually more power hungry.

edit: woops this should go in politics thread.

Seinfeld: "Have you ever noticed that politicians are like GPUs? They grow more powerful every year, yet they constantly hunger for even more power? They cost the people more too all the time, and the one time they actually start making people money, they get the environmental wackos to shut that down by making them switch algorithms. Thats why me and my friends only play frogger."

Nvidia 2nd quarter results are in:

"Gaming revenue was $2.04 billion, down 44% sequentially and down 33% from the prior year."
"Second quarter results are expected to include approximately $1.32 billion of charges, primarily for inventory and related reserves, based on revised expectations of future demand."

i dont think there are benchmarks out yet. i assume this fall will be a great time to buy a ryzen 7000 + 4090 or a 4070 a few months later.

What's the general concensus on buying a 3000 series card soon at a discount vs waiting for the 4000 series? Does the deep discount on the 3000 series make it worth getting a less powerful card? I read an article that says late August will be the best time to buy a 3000 series card.

I'm interested in bang for my buck, not the most powerful card. I don't play any games that require a supermachine.

The best time to buy a 3000 series is after the 4000 series drops and that doesn't look like late August, so it's more what is your timeline?

Etherium could go proof of stake mid September and take some more legs out of the crypto crowd, AMD announcing next gen within the next 45 days, but 4090 release likely later this fall.

The current price lines will hold for at least month, after that it's a matter of when and how big of cuts occur.

The best time is just probably now while there's still tons of inventory coming in and retailers who have to get rid of it ASAP.

There is a surplus yes, but I don't think prices are that good unless you go for a 3090 or something. There's still room on their shelves right now, when the 4000 drops there won't be. That firesale is gonna be good.
