Windows Update is not going to break your PC any more than any other usage, from a hardware perspective. No warranties expressed or implied about your Windows 11 install, however; Microsoft is going to Microsoft from time to time and everyone's install is different but it's voodoo/Cargo Cultism to think that installing SOFTWARE is going to kill your RAM.

Also, it goes without saying, very sorry about your hardware issue as well.
i'm not worried about it 'breaking' my PC I'm worried about it turning on AI bullshit I removed and turned off yonks ago.

I've literally never had a Windows update brick a piece of my computer's hardware across multiple machines on each version of the software - and I've used every version of the software (except ME and Vista) since Win 95.
Windows update bricked a server 2016 virtual machine a few weeks ago.

Monthly reboot to apply updates and it got stuck at loading windows due to overlapping monthly updates. Thank god for working backups.

I mean, MS sucks and all that but "Windows Update" didn't kill your RAM; it just died while Windows was updating, unless you have something more directly indicative that Windows Update was causative. Otherwise its just French peasants killing cats. The Great Cat Massacre - Wikipedia It's the worst time for anything, HD or Memory related at least to fail. I have a stack of unfinished project upgrades and other BS on my workbench that I felt was a $500 sign of failure; now it seems it's a $2500 spare parts pile for the Long Winter of the Rampocalypse. Hopefully it won't last that long, at least in the way the Big 3 DRAM companies (now 4 or 5? with the two new Chinese manufacturers) are indicating.
Incredibly rare, but it can happen. If a failed update forces the system to repeatedly loop while attempting to write to the BIOS or map physical addresses, it can occasionally trigger an SPD corruption or cause a power surge that electrically fries a RAM stick.

That is what happened to my ram stick. An update can fuck up hardware.

I'm having the same problem lately but it'll eventually start up. I don't know wtf is going on, it's a brand new PC.
If it's a prebuilt talk to them. If you built it yourself then I find that google AI is surprisingly helpful. I did my normal tests, but then I asked google ai and it had me do some of tests I didn't know about.

Didn't see how my ram could be the problem, system isn't that old and the ram tested fine a few weeks back. So I didn't think to run ram tests until everything else was tried. Simplest test also.

I’m sorry but this has never happened to Kirun so this just isn’t possible. He has used every windows since 95 after all.

Sorry. I didn't realize that on a forum with maybe 100-200 active users, roughly 95 of them would somehow experience the exact same incredibly rare event. What are the odds?!

And naturally, it couldn't possibly be shitty hardware, an electronic component randomly failing because that's what electronic components occasionally do, or literally any other potential point of failure. No, no. IT'S MICROSOFT'S FAULT!!!!!!

And it certainly has nothing to do with the internet having a pathological hate boner for Microsoft, making it incredibly easy to score some cheap virtue-signaling points by jumping on the outrage bandwagon. Surely not. That would be far too cynical. It's definitely Microsoft.

BIOS is on a SPIROM so nothing writes to it. Anything BIOS needs to retain is in NVRAM.

We've had tons of ram break in our labs, but the stress we put on them is much greater than any consumer will. I cannot imagine SPD Corruption from a windows update, but it's Microsoft so who knows.

Assume you werent OCing these DIMMs, it was more likely the continual resets just stressed the DIMM.

I've been building computers since the early eighties. Worked on Dec computers before that. Doubled as IT in the companies I worked for before one bitched about paying me an engineer's wage for doing unbillable work. So they made me hire someone to do it. But I still was responsible for their work and made sure they did it right. And I still watch them like hawks to this day. They answer to me.

I've never had any issues like this and assumed it was operator error when I heard about it. Had a hard time believing what happened myself. But it did happen and it is possible. Do your own research.

And I didn't really care that much that it happened that way. Hardware fails occasionally, so you replace it and move on. I'm surprised it doesn't happen more actually. I do hate microsoft and bill gates, but their update process is pretty solid.

What my bitch was mainly about is the price of the ram because of all the AI data center shit going on right now. Fucking criminal.
